With Portland? Boston gets Randolph and Jarrett Jack Portland gets 5th pick and Theo Ratliff and filler Boston gets a true pointguard and a bigman who can score/rebound to pair up with Al Jefferson, and it should make Pierce happy. They should immediately become contenders. Jefferson Randolph Pierce Green/West Jack Portland gets the #5 pick and a chance at Mike Conley if Memphis passes on him. Also opens a spot so Aldridge and Oden can play side by side. Also gives them some capspace with Ratliff's expiring contract This deal makes alot of sense for both teams, but would be contingent on Conley being there at 5. If he isn't, they could probably work out a deal where Jarrett Jack isn't included.
Honestly it's a bad trade for both teams in my opinion. Boston doesn't get younger but it puts them in a position to make a final championship run.
He's decently dominant in the West, too. Hasn't helped the Blazers make the playoffs, though. The Celtics would make the playoffs in the East with him, but I doubt they get very deep. Seems like a fair deal for Portland.
Last season Boston traded away their top pick to Portland. Boston got Sebastian Telfair; Portland got Brandon Roy (plus Raef LaFrentz's contract). Why would Boston do that again? Danny Ainge rightfully took a lot of grief for that boneheaded move.
Because its a better deal than trading Al Jefferson, who is a dominating force by himself in the East, along with their 5th pick for JUST Jermaine O'Neal. Paul Pierce wants to win now...and this would be the best deal for them at this particular moment. Portland was a mess last year, you really cant fault Randolph for all of their suckiness. Remember, they get Randolph (a proven 20/10 player) and Jarrett Jack, a young guy who has shown he can run an offense. He's better than any point guard they currently have. Someone said they'd be getting older...well Randolph is 26 and Jack is like 23. Who at #5 would provide 20/10 right away for Boston? Nobody. A big three of Pierce, Jefferson, and Randolph would be tough to mess with in the East. C Jefferson PF Randolph SF Pierce SG Green PG Jack G West C Perkins SF Wally PG Rondo F Gomes
The Celtics will be a basket case until they dump Danny Ainge, who is clearly in over his head. I don't see Jefferson and Randolph in the same lineup. In fact, Randolph is the type of player who subtracts from how effective his teammates are. Both Pierce and Jefferson would be diminished by adding him to their team and the Blazers would be better off for dumping Randolph. Portland wins that trade by a mile and even Ainge is smart enough to realize it. Giving Portland the #5 pick after they already have the #1 pick, PLUS allowing them to dump Randolph's contract reminds me of something Ted Stepien would have done in the 70s. I agree with your comment about Jefferson + #5 for JO. I'm down on JO and if offered that the Pacers should jump on it if the salaries could match up somehow. But just because one trade isn't as crazy as another doesn't mean you should do it. Just my opinion.
Reasonable question, reasonable trade idea. Ainge, however, has a body of clueless work making the C's directionless and irrelevant. Nice job, brat!
