OMG, it's really sad how clueless the people asking to trade Battier are.

wtf is wrong with you? did y'all forget this? did y'all forget all the charges he took? without Battier, we wouldn't have won the Lakers game or the Bobcats game...

that's what psycho bandwagoners do. they blame the player that's doing all the right things but is in a slump, and they totally ignore the real problem on the team right now which is Alston's dismal play and Adelman's JVG-like stubborness in keeping Skip2myBrick in the game..

but hey, Alston makes AND-1 moves, attaboy Alston!!

*coughs* should have kept Rudy gay *coughs again*

imagine if we got Brandon Roy and JVG would have traded him away, everyone on this board would have been still crying....but when i see rudy gay (example, dunk on scola) i have flashback of when the rockets traded him away for a Win-now season, which we didnt

We wouldn't have won against the Lakers, that's for sure. As for the Bobcats, we might wouldn't have been in danger of losing to the Bobcats if Battier wasn't 0-4 for shooting that night either. I also think that if last nights loss can be put on any one player, it's Battier. He was awful last night.

That said, I refuse to believe Battier won't come back around. Alston and James are playing terrible so far too. Alston is even playing awful compared to his usual low standards. I'm sure they'll all start playing better at some point. Scola should look better as he adjusts to the NBA game too. I'm not ready to panic yet, but I do understand the frustration the people proposing we trade Battier are feeling.

Can Rick teach Battier to drive to the hoop and make a layup or sneak in for a bockdoor, or drop a baby hook in once in a while? Is he too old to learn new tricks?

    If only we had Gay....

Nah, Battier just needs to give some more minutes to Bonzi and Steve;)
He should not be playing 35 minutes a night.....

No, it was actually a very intelligent trade. With the way T-Mac and Yao play, Battier is a very, very valuable, consistent asset.....

Yeah, they sure proved last year that they are not playoff caliber by earning the 5th best record in the entire league.

I was by no means trying to jump to conclusions or suggest trading Shane by starting this thread. Nor insinuate that he is problem #1. We know that problem #1-100 is PG. But let's not ignore the other facets of this team. Shane played his best game in a week last night, and still was mediocre at best. I think he played better d on Kobe than anyone else, but still contend that the great players in this league get theirs. In the first Game, Shane did most of the guarding of Kobe, and he certainly got his.

My point was simply two-fold: 1) Shane is NOT adapting as well in this system thus far into the year. 2) Bonzi clearly is more of an Adelman type player...having open shooters is fine, but Adelman's offense focus more on movement, cutting, and taking it hard to the rack...Bonzi does all of those.

I didn't understand Bonzi the first few games but now love what he brings to the table.

Also, again not insinuating trading Battier, but I do think some combination of Battier/Rafer for Maggette would be nice...

Battier/Rafer/Draft Pick for Maggette/Tim Thomas works...

As someone who is among Battier's earliest supporters, I am starting to question Battier's value to this team.

From what I observe, Battier is one of the most struggling Rockets with Adelman's system. This is unexpected because he is supposed to be a high bball-IQ guy.

It seems he prefers to remain a JVG type of player who does little movement or hard cutting in offense. Anyone familiar his game knows he actually has a good jump hook shot with either hand. Using that skill alone, he could have posted up and scored a fair amount at decent clips. Instead, he relishes his 3-pt specialist role and stations almost exclusively outside the 3-pt line.

Unfortunately unlike guys like Novak, he is not a pure shooter who possesses textbook-perfect shooting techniques, and his 3-pt shooting percentage has taken a nose dive since game 1, in addition to drops in other areas of performances.

At this rate, Battier is becoming a Hayes without an interior game. One Chuck is (or may be) good for the Rockets, but two is one too many. With McGrady out, this team cannot afford to have two starters who are offensively handicapped. I rarely, if at all, care about a trade, but if Battier continues to struggle to adapt and evolve, I for one would not be sad to see him gone.

    No more intangibles, baby.

Oh yeah, he can take his China Peak shoe contract with him.
