How long has Kenny Smith been "The Jet"? I never heard it til he became a broadcaster.

 

That came about when he did go to the broadcast booth much like Charles "Garbage Disposal" Barkley.

nah, the nickname came when he was a kid because he really liked the drink of the same name.

I've never understood Kenny "the Jet". Is it supposed to be a cute reference to Benny the Jet? Can someone fill me in?

 

I've actually heard both. In SLAM magazine, Steve said it was because he was "quick as a wink", but on NBA.com it says it was a drink he used to like. I don't know which it really is.

 

Why can't it be both?

I had absolutely no idea that Cat came from quick as a cat. I always thought they called him that because Cuttino sounds a lot like c*nt

Kenny Smith was "The Jet" before he got to the Rockets. He had incredible hops, he was in one or two slam dunk contests during the all-star game and even had a Nike commercial with Super Dave. He still had hops with the Rockets, but not quite like his younger days.

Got the nickname when at North Carolina, not only was fast and quick but could sky. He really was an incredible athlete while there.
