as it becomes more and more evident that the rocks likely won't make the playoffs (much less contend for the title) this year i'd like to list the contending teams and whether i can root for them or not:

**teams i really, realy don't want to have win the title***
    1. Utah - Karl Malone, enough said. actually i wouldn't mind seeing hornacek get a ring - but i think i like him only because he's kinda of family man (i'm referring to the face wiping thing he does for his kids)

    2. Portland - i'd love for pippen to always be considered as riding MJ's coattails. if portland won he would not only get rid of that tag, but i'm sure he'd only put down houston, barkley even more.

    3. LA - somebody previously posted that if LA wins, then people will start to put Shaq above Hakeem in the all-time best center lists. also, i wouldn't mind the zen master being placed in the same "coattail rider" category of pippen.

*teams i don't want to win*
    1. NY - living here in NY, i have to put up with the Yankees 6 months a year. Having to hear about a Knick's championship would drive me crazy. also Sprewell deserves to suffer a few more years before he gets a ring. the only reason they aren't in the above category is VanGundy. I like the guy -mostly because he and Pat Riley hate each other.

    2. Miami - I always felt pat riley got more credit for what he did in NY than he deserved. He won the conference by having his players incorporate too much wrestling into basketball.

    ** teams i wouldn't mind winning**
    1. Indiana - because Larry Bird winning and then retiring would really irk david stern. also because spike lee would finally shut up - (well, maybe not)

    2. philadelphia - kukoc winning a ring would probably really bother pippen

3.. San Antonio - I really would be rooting for them had they not won last year. If they win again this year - it just makes the back-to-back rockets championships that much more commonplace.

    4. phoenix, minnesota, or charlotte - longer shots but i'm sure portland and LA would be really embarrassed if these teams got the ring instead of them.

i know i left out a few playoff teams but i don't think they really have a chance anyways. given all the above i think i'll root for phoenix vs. charlotte in the finals with charlotte winning.

    any other opinions...

There is nothing wrong with Portland except Pippen. So I would root for the Jailblazers, but I can't for the very reason stated in this post.....I want Pippen to go down in history as the best coat tail rider in the NBA.

I love Phoenix and Minnesota. But I have to pull for Indiana....I know, I know, the East has no chance. But I like Reggie, Mark Jackson, Smits, and of course - LARRY LEGEND!

    Go Pacers!

OK--you did get "rocks" in your first sentence.

But when you stick the dagger in my heart by asking us who to cheer for in the playoffs, since we suck, I must point out the "NBA Dish" thread.

Now, if you want to start a thread about Rocket's as spoilers...what playoff contenders we can screw with the most...I'm down for that. sigh...our team really isn't so bad we have to find other teams to talk about in our glorious Rockets 2000 forum, yet, is it guys?!

Agreed this is for NBAdish. I have been a bit puzzled by the Laker sentiments though.
