Roc Paint got me thinking … have you met any famous people? Sports figures, Movie Stars, Politicians, you name it! Please indulge us! P.S. I haven't met anyone that's why i'm asking.
that one guy And a future NBA star named Tyrone Ellis. Just thought I'd let ya know, so I can dig this up when he's tearin it up
I met Elvis Costello. The real one. He was nice. Oh, and I slept in Sir Edmund Hillary's bed. And my cousin is friends with Sam Neill, who had Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman over for dinner quite often when they were married. Apparently in real life Nicole is very blotchy. Not a very good batting average, I'm afraid.
I've played against Alton Ford, Rashard, and some other non-pro type ballers, like Louis Truscott and George Williams...but I wouldn't say I "know" them. I always meet a bunch of Astros and Astros affiliated people at the baseball dinner. I also know a lot of powerful people that do whatever they want and nobody can do jack about it, and if you give me sh*t about it I will start typing a bunch of run-on sentences and then when I am wrong I won't acknowledge the fact and simply move on to making a bunch of other crap up to shove it in your face you bastards.
I was gonna resist, but you said indulge you. I dont know them, I just met them. actors/actress' Harrison Ford Brad Pitt Mike Meyers Rob Lowe Arnold Meg Ryan that slutty girl from head of the class/showgirls Chevy Chase Steve Martin Leonardo DiCaprio Speilburg Kristie Brinkley Elizabeth Shue and Im sure there were plenty more, but Im pretty bad at identifying celebs, I only remember when other people p[oint out who they are. Musicians. Sting Billy Joel the Roots Black Uhuru Shaggy Rayvon Jimmy Buffet Steel Pulse Itzak Pearlman Bunny Whaler Yellow man Maxi Priest yeah, lots of Reggae, but these guysa are really aproachable. Sports the one you guys all know. Cuttino Mobley from the college days Peter Vescey- hey he lives in my town My cousin Amanda Clark-sailing Political JFK jr. where does he fit?? not here, but whatever some senators/house of rep members from my state lots of other politicans, speakers, and public figures. that is a decent start. please remember that I live and work in the Hamptons. these people are everywhere here, so they are hardly celebrities. cary on
Wow VOR. Let's see... one time in college I was walking across campus and ran into a friend, who made me join her and get in line to shake hands with Barbara Bush. It was after some fancy talk she gave, though obviously we weren't dressed like we were supposed to be there. Anyway, Mrs. Bush was tired and was just going through the hand-shaking motions automatically... I don't think she even noticed what we did. Still, we thought it was cool and ran home to call our parents. That's about as big a brush with greatness as I've had. I was in the same dorm with Lance Berkman, but didn't actually know him.
I had a 45-minute phone conversation with the poet Allen Ginsberg. Quite an interesting fellow. Oh yeah, I forgot about meeting Dave Matthews when I worked at Starbucks. He had funny pants.
kevin spacey. ray childress (mcdonalds) ron jeremy ( i didnt talk to him but my friend asked if it was true he could suck his own ****, he said he used to be able to but he couldnt anymore)
I met Iggy Pop and Jackie Mason the same night in different places. Used to wait on Al Goldstein (publisher of SCREW magazine), Steven Berkoff (bad guy Victor Maitland in Beverly Hills Cop, also great playwright), B.D. Wong (M. Butterfly) and Justine Bateman. They were all regulars at a restaurant I worked at. I ran former California Gov. Jerry Brown's 92 presidential campaign Houston office and he slept on my floor. While working for him, I met Jesse Jackson, Michael Moore and Don Novello (Father Guido Sarducci). Also drank with J. Brown, Boston mayor Ray Flynn and Jack Germond from the McLaughlin Group at Keneally's. Used to book a punk rock club, where I booked and met Bad Brains and U.K. Subs. Flirted all night at an actor party with Marissa Tomei. She was in a play with a friend of mine in NY. We talked one on one for about two hours. This was post-A Different World, pre-her movie career. Drank at Rudyards recently with Griffin Dunne, while he was in town for that PMRC VH-1 movie. Took comedian David Cross to Rudz and notsuoH when he played the Laff Stop a few months back. And drank with Grant Show (ex-Melrose Place) in a New York bar for a couple hours. Told him Jake was a fool to break up with Jo. He agreed. Recently met playwright/character actor Wallace Shawn (Princess Bride, Clueless, Star Trek DS9) while he was doing a play reading in Marfa, TX. Very funny man. Stand still for an hour anywhere in Houston and you'll meet Billy Gibbons. I have about a million times. Other local celebs you meet again and again are Rudy T, Jew Don Boney and Edward Albee. When I was thirteen I worked at Baskin Robbins and served the Judy's (Guyana Punch). Met the singer from King Missile outside Stop N Go after they played at U of H. He was with a 14 year old girl I knew. Roger Daltrey. No matter what we said, he just smiled, shook our hands and said "Cheers." Met a lot of Rockets and Gene Peterson when I borrowed credentials and snuck into the press conference introducing Pippen as a Rocket. Former Oiler Ken Kennard bought a townhouse from my mother when I was about ten. He gave me some Chiclets. Went to high school here in Houston with Renee O'Connor (Gabrielle on Xena). Produced a world premiere play by Pulitzer Price winner Suzan-Lori Parks, who mostly writes plays but also wrote Spike Lee's Girl 6. The play we produced was called F***ing A. It'll have its NY premiere next year. I'm sure there are more. My memory's not so good.
<a href="http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15628">We did this topic early last year, so it's definitely prime for an update</a>. For me, it's still Weird Al Yankovic. This past year I met <a href="http://www.greghoward.com">Greg Howard</a> and <a href="http://www.devonmusic.com">Devon</a>, but neither one of them is particularly famous.
Kenny Thomas is always around here in ABQ in the off season. Either at the gym or at alocal collectible shop, I talk to him here and there. I went to his basketball camp last NOVEMBER. I was one of only 13 little kids there. I'm not little though.
here's my list from the previous thread... Hakeem Olajuwon (met him back in his UH days, had his autograph on a rubber ball, it eventually turned into a big ink spot!! I also met him again right before he moved to Toronto) Talked to coach at Whole Foods briefly Met Mike Newlin (former Rocket) Calvin Murphy (autograph) Evander Holyfield (autograph) Saw John Goodman at the Jazzfest a few years ago. Glen Danzig (autograph) Rick Rubin (autograph) The guys from Soundgarden (all autos, but didn't meet Chris Cornell)
Steve Francis Sam Cassell George Gervin Bob Lanier (when I was in 8th grade) James Hetfield Jason Newsted John Petrucci Mike Portnoy Chuck Norris Vinny Paul Calvin Murphy
Dude! I met Ray Childress at a Texas Burger in Centerville (between Houston/Dallas) like 10 yrs ago. That dude likes fast food. He was with his family in a black ford explorer. Besides that, Bill Russell was in the mall below my office downtown last year and I saw him. That's about all.
I've met some famous people, but don't really know anyone that famous. Though, it is rumored in my family that my sister and I are distant cousins of country singer Alan Jackson. Too bad I don't know for sure...I don't much care for his music but I could use the money. In any case, I've met about half of the current Orlando Magic roster and some of the local TV personalities in Orlando...and that's about it. I could start reaching for some more names, but I digress.
Not really many people for me. A long time ago, my family went to a golf shop in Nashville and saw a guy who looked just like Ray Stevens ("The Streak", "Everything Is Beautiful", etc.). Of course, no one in my family approached him for an autograph, and it was only after he had left that we said something. The clerk at the store said, "Yup, that was Ray Stevens." (I could have gotten his autograph). That is really the only one although I did go to school with "blossoming movie star", D.J. Qualls. He graduated a year after me in school. I didn't really know him....just knew his name and face. Finally, I have a distant cousin on my dad's side that is (or was) married to all people...Barbara Mandrell (I still think her sister, Louise, was one of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen).
I don't "know" these people but have run into them. Carl Herrera, Art Howe, Bob Watson, Oliver Luck, met Rick Perry years ago when he was running for Agriculture Commissioner when I had to volunteer on his campaign for a school thing, Ken Caminiti (really nice guy even if he's messed up), Dave Smith was a neighbor, Alonzo Highsmith, Bubba McDowell, Lamar Lathon, David Klingler, Craig James, Bart Enis (cool guy), Warren Moon, met Ray Childress drunk as hell at the Rodeo one year, Anna Nicole Smith (she's a large woman), and my most interesting one was when I ran into Chris Farley. Apparently he was in town for some Hard Rock cafe opening or Planet Hollywood or something and I ran into him at a restaurant. The next week he was dead. That was freaky.
I've met: Alex Lifeson (RUSH) Phil Collins (Genesis) Mike Rutherford (Genesis) Tony Banks (Genesis) Jon Anderson (yes) Rick Wakeman (Yes) Billy Gibbons Robin Trower Joe Walsh I think there are more, but I just can't remember....
