From what I saw in late 50's, the 60's and first half of the 70's, black people as a race in general, in East Texas, got ****edover bad. White people used cultural and political discrimination in an attempt to keep them financially exploitable. As with everything else, it's always about the money; cheap labor and as landlords and money lenders. I didn't see any Asians.
As usual, it's all about the Blacks, Whites, and Asians. Nobody ever talks about the Mexicans/ Hispanics. I guess because they are just supposed to mow the lawn and babysit your kids they arent important.

It's true. Asians/Indians would have 1/3 the rights today if Blacks, and to a lesser extent Indians and Hispanics, didnt fight for equality. Like Sishir mentioned, the ocean pretty much made anyone who wanted to emigrate rich or determined. I think another difference is that the first generations kept their cultures tight knit and built their own social network while understanding others might be too exclusive. Whereas African Americans don't have a truly distinctive and encompassing culture, and Indians have been a victim of forced assimilation through government sponsored housing or tribal mismanagement from proAmerican council members.
I know the freemasons were one of the first social organizations to accept non-white members willingly. The Elks and The Eagles have had stormy pasts with non-whites but allow membership although that membership remains predominantly non-white.
Mr. Clutch, with all due respect, and I respect you a lot, should we discuss every possible race and the discrimination that faces them in any thread about any particular race? I think the thread starter is a mad bigot, but if everyone persists in discussing his thread "subject," are we required to include all races? Since you brought it up, a relative is dating and thinking of marrying a Mexican citizen who is from that 1% of "white" Mexicans who basically own and run things in Mexico. She is as bigoted as anyone I've ever met, talking about "those people, you know what they're like," when we were talking about the fun we had on Isla Mujeres and how nice the people were on the island. What prompted her comment was a complaint we had about getting our hot tub to work, which was simply a minor thing of no consequence during our stay. My relative quickly changed the subject, giving yet another example of the effect "love" has on an otherwise clear thinking person who I've never heard a bigoted word from about anyone of any race in the 30+ years I've known him. It would be great if people were judged as how they are as people, and not what they are, but I suppose that's too much to hope for. D&D. Attempt Civility! Especially with Sir Jackie!! the thread is not about race not even close. its about supremacist policies overseas cause we dont mind our own business thats what the white man burden means. i am protesting the white establishment actions in africa and asia and the middle east and latin america. leave people alone and stop imperialism is all iam saying. i know we live in that system so its hard to see the forest from the trees and most whites are sensitive in talking about race cause they get uncomfortable and defensive. but our policies are still based on race and culture.
Please. As has been pointed out already, the phrase is the white man's burden. When you can't even properly reproduce the accepted and understood phrase, before you even articulate the most basic idea you sound like a complete and utter fool and buffoon. While this may or may not accurately describe you, at least try and make us think it doesn't. If you can't even properly transcribe the phrase, why should anybody believe that you are capable of reasonably precise logic?
I think that's an accurate description of him. He started a thread that can be described no other way than 100% racist. He can't speak English. He can't recognize the utter hypocrisy of his position. Despite all of this, you have the liberals SUPPORTING his racist position. I guess for liberals, racism is only when it it's aimed at minorities. Horrible.
I didn't see any Hispanics either .... there was a Greek kid down the street. For real, I graduated High School in 1971, in East Texas, and I never went to school with a kid who spoke English as a second language or even had any that had a prominant accent...other than southern redneck. But I did see the intergration of the white and black high schools together. The whole time was just as bazaar as seperate schools sound. I wonder if the great Hispanic migration had happened during the time of segregation, would the city fathers have put in a third tier of schools? (we had Hispanic surnamed kids but they were the third generation Texan types)
