I am not sure of the organizations you speak of that are for blacks only. The ones I speak of I saw on the Travel Channel but I am unsure of which organizations they spoke of. They were doing a profile on the Miami-South Beach area. They showed a very prosperous neighborhood and named a few clubs there where minorities were not allowed. They said it was a sore spot in Miami and that is still being practiced today. It's not as much bs as you claim. I mean there are still clubs women cannot join too which is ignorant. Sorry but believe it or not places like this still exist. I am not saying that white people are the problem and not blaming white people either. I am saying past policies and politics have had a lasting effect and you cannot deny that. No, not all white people had the world handed to them but I guarantee you that they did not have the restrictions that blacks had against them as little as 40 years ago. Is that all the time it takes to undue the damage? I am not asking anybody to hand anybody anything, where did you get that? Thanks for putting words in my mouth champ. Again, did I say anybody should be handed anything? Huh? No I didn't. Geez. That's good that you're successful and yes there are plenty of black people that have been, are, and will be successful but if you don't think the politics and policies of this country and many states have been detrimental to the development of black success then OK. I am not asking you to give them anything but to understand the situation Oh, I am sorry did I ask you for a damn thing? Did I? I don't think I asked you for spit, not a damn thing not even your damn opinion. I did not ask you to give anything to anybody either. I am not asking for an apology either. I even admitted that there were a number of other problems besides the past ones. People are doing things about it but more needs to be done and not by whites, hmmm I think I mentioned the parents. Yep, I did. I think I mentioned leadership. Yep, I did. And as I said a number of other people need to step up. So you please STFU because I did not ask you or any other white person to do a damn thing about it.
Reverse discrimination is always funny, it's satire. It's been around since before Greek Theater. Gonna Get Me a Shotgun Performed by Garrett Morris on 24 Jan 1976 I'm gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see, I'm gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see. When I kill all the whities I see, then whitey he won't bother me, I'm gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see. Then I'll get a white woman who's wearing a navy blue sweater. Kill my landlord Performed by Eddie Murphy (date unknown) Dark and lonely on a summer's night Kill my landlord Kill my landlord Watchdog barking Do he bite? Kill my landlord Kill my landlord Slip in his window Break his neck Then his house I start to wreck Got no reason What the heck Kill my Landlord Kill my landlord C-I-L-L my l a n d l o r d
you do realize that the reason there are black only organizations is because blacks weren't allowed to join white only organizations. wow sounds like you had it hard
I'm sure he did have some hard times...like the rest of us...that's life. And I'm sure it's tough dealing with an alcoholic parent. I don't think "white" people made it to the top first or are even "at the top" or if there even is "a top". The Romans enslaved the Brits, the Egyptians the Hebrews... hell the word 'slave' comes from the Slavic peoples. The world has a long history. But I live...in H-town...in the year 2007 and am blessed to have freedom and opportunities.
Quit generalizing all white people. The hardcore racists are usually older and uneducated southerners (and Bostonians ^_^)... But I think they have become a little distracted. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f4RNb3tt0LM&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f4RNb3tt0LM&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> It is true, however, that the anonymity of the internet allows a lot of racists to take out all of their self-hatred and sadness for their pathetic lives on another "group" of people. Hmm...
Here's the problem. For about 400 hundred years blacks in this nation were enslaved, or not allowed to vote for the most part. They weren't even given the opportunity to get the same education, develop contacts, establish themselves in the power structures of govt. business, education etc. Meanwhile whites were allowed all of that and had the opportunities to develop their culture, educational background etc. Less than 50 years ago were blacks allowed to vote, and just 50 years ago did were they even allowed to make a small foothold into the education system so long denied them. Yet because that happened people expect 50 years to equal out 400 years of establishing ties, connections, cultures, educational background etc. That seems insane even if racism were wiped out with the civil rights voting act, which of course it wasn't. I know there are plenty of whites who will say their parents or grandparents were uneducated poor whites and yet they've made things go there way since then. Well first of all their parents and grandparents had all the opportunities of education, jobs, connections, and establishment that blacks and their families were denied. Secondly the roads for climbing out of a bad situation were more numerous and easier to attain for whites. After all their teachers, bosses, etc. understood their background, and way they communicated because they came from a similar one. The bottom line though is this. Does any of that mean that African Americans shouldn't try hard, or expect things to be given to them or blame everything on race rather than trying to improve? Of course not. What I see happening, though, is African Americans who sometimes bring up any mention of race at all, or attacked and labeled as complainers who are trying to get "something for nothing".
the problem with this thread is it is just based in generalizations and all arguments hence forth are based in generalizations. everyone's situation is unique.
I don't disagree with most of that. But you cannot deny there are way too many instances of African Americans trying to pull the race card to get something done. Most of the "old" generation of whites are now AARP members who can't do much more than bicker about it with their war buddies. For every racist white man there are 20 white guys walking on pins and needles trying not to offend anyone. It all goes back to this politically correct bull**** that has been so prominent in the past few decades.
or maybe way too many white people are too sensitive when someone does "play the race card". most black people get up and go to work and come home with their family everyday just like like most white people.
Who's on pins and needles trying to be politically correct? Is it really that hard to respect other people and where they came from?
It is when people get offended at any little thing that could ever possibly be taken in a somewhat negative way, even if it wasn't meant that way.
So . . . it is like a husband who beat his wife getting mad when she flinches when he raises his hand Rocket River If A had not happened. . .B would not have happened.
Yes, it is exactly like that. Great analogy. It's like a Ford, only it doesn't have wheels. And you can't drive places in it. And it's not a car.
Believe me I hate PC BS. I think it hampers civil rights, progress against racism, denies people the best opportunity to more accurately study history, and leads to censorship. I don't have statistics on people that play the race card to try and get something done. That is a shame and lessens the impact of real and valid complaints against racism. But I know that on occasion it does happen. That is specifically why I included part of the post stating that there is never any excuse for anyone not to try their best, and give up because real, perceived, or imagined racism. There are obstacles that are real, but never should those obstacles keep anyone from trying their best and working their hardest towards anything. And while I am against PC BS, I'm not going to be bitter over white guys who have all the opportunities having to walk on pins and needles while African Americans face far worse than being nervous about offending someone on a regular basis.
You are clearly misreading the racial subtext of the commercial. Obviously this commercial is saying that even black men might dress and talk well they are still mentally inferior since they believe that McDonalds actually makes a tasty breakfast..
In discussions like this I think it is important to remember that most of the Asians here in the US came after the civil rights movement. Prior to that Asians were subject to many of the same oppressive laws as African-Americans. For most of US history Chinese were only allowed to settle (when they were even allowed into the country) and work in Chinatowns and were considered intellectually inferior to whites, morally degenerate and lazy. Since the 1960's much of the wave of Asian immigration has been of the best, brightest and most motivated of Asians so it should be no surprise that they now have a reputation as being smart and hardworking. Consider what people would think of African-Americans if most of them were Collin Powell, Oprah and Barack Obama.
Horrible, horrible analogy. The two situations aren't even remotely close. I think it's time we start developing thicker skin. White people haven't done a damn thing to me and I'll be damned if I'm going to blame them for whatever perceived obstacles I encounter.
