I was wondering if you guys can tell me whats a good PDA to buy. I am required to get one for med school. It needs the Palm or Windows mobile and wifi. I don't really want a smart phone since T-mobiles one is really not supposed to be that great, plus my cell phones takes a lot of damage. So far I have found Palm TX for around 250 on amazon.

Also, I could not find any but a PDA with a keypad(keyboard) would be cool.

Are there any other recommendations? I need this to last me a few years, at least four. But I do not want to pay a ridiculous amount.

Why do you need it? Tungsten E2 is pretty solid, and I recommend it if you actually need a PDA. Otherwise, check out Windows Mobile for fun.

edit: for medschool get the E2.

I can give a recommendation for the Palm TX. I've had one for two years and it served me very well. The multimedia abilities are really great. It's good for watching movies and storing photos. Also. Docs to Go is a great program and i've got alot of word and pdf files on there.

I'm an MS2, we are also required to have pocket PC PDAs.

Dell axim 51v all the way. everything you need, good design, dell doesnt make anymore, but they support them. You can get it for kinda cheap too.

I recommend sony clie th55, battery is really good, can last more than 10 hours on a single charge. And audio quality when playing mp3 is awesome, better than ipod.

As for right now...pda stand alone..palm TX is prolly the best option

My med school got us all Palm TX's. Solid PDA in my opinion. I hold epocrates, Tarascon, MedCalc, and thinking about UpToDate once I purchase a 2gig SD card. I was talking to other students from different schools, and they have TX's too. I have also seen a few of my residents using them as well on rotations.

Does Palm still use its own operating system, or is it all Windows Mobile now?

I have an Axim x51v, and could not be more pleased. Has a fast processor, lots o' memory, wi-fi, and bluetooth. Even the standard battery has a pretty decent life, and there are ugrades to that if you need more. It uses Windows Mobile 5 (which I've heard is faster and more stable than the new WM6). The thing is rock solid.

I agree it was the best stand-alone PPC for the money. Only way to get one is on ebay now. Some of them are still new in box with warranty as some people have snatched them up when they were about to be discontinued. Dell will still honor the warranty but the price on them have gone up a bit.

    624mhz processor
Compactflash AND SecureDigital card slots for up to 20GB of storage
intel 2700 video card for gaming
    128mb rom
    128mb memory
    True VGA screen
    Wi-fi and Bluetooth

Well, I just ordered the TX off of Amazon cuz it was cheaper than the x51v and got better reviews on cnet. Cnet said TX had a great battery life and complained about the x51v's battery. So I figured just get the cheaper one. I'm pretty sure I do not need the extra processor, or hope I don't. That is the only feature that x51v had that outdid the TX.
