So he's supposed to be a "consultant" now...

Is he out scouting? Consulting w/ JVG re: the draft and player observations? Was he at the Chicago camp?

Any news on what he's doing, new role, relationship w/ JVG?

If I were "sacked" then I wouldn't be in chicago working/scouting for the team that "sacked" me.

Isn't that like asking, "Where's Joe Ash?" Ash is the head of scouting for the Rockets and no one outside of the team ever knows where he is or what he is doing.

My guess is that Rudy will be purposefully very low profile. I would seriously doubt we see more than a word or two about him in print this year.

So, they are paying him more than Larry Brown because they are being nice?

Firing coaches requires full payment or buyout negotations. They generally require the fired coach to actively look for another head coaching job as requisite for payment, and when he finds it, the old team is removed from their obligation to continue paying. in this situation, it looks like Rudy and Les are in mutual (and monetary) agreement to not talk about it.

If Rudy is good to go, I expect him to land a coaching gig within a year....since (1) he wants to coach; (2) it is probably required by the buyout to actively look; and (3) it would end Les's obligation to pay.

If Sports Illustrated is to be believed, RT could've taken the New Orleans job.

My guess is their agreement went the other way, that the salary is primarily "hush money," and RT is contractually PREVENTED from taking a coaching gig this season. That way Les' lie is safe, RT genuinely gets a year "off," and his legend (see JVG) gets to percolate. A year or two from now he would then be the hottest coaching option, and have his pick of jobs.

    edc,

I agree it will not be immediately, but that's more about Rudy making the best decision. He may very well not be ready right now.

Your scenario suggests Les wants him to stay put at $10-12m for 2yrs just to cover a lie. I don't see it. The city wouldn't care if Rudy gets a job midseason or next season. The city would be thrilled for him. It would be written as a great story of recovery and heart of a champion to continue coaching. Les doesn't need the lie to include Rudy not coaching for 2yrs. He needs that $10-12m much more than that. And he certainly doesn't need a scout that expensive....not with Lindsey, Johnson, CD, Ash and anyone else JVG brings.
