Anyone know where Reece Gaines has been? I thought he played decently and had impressed the coaches during the pre-season. He is "injured" or just not getting any PT whatsoever. I wouldnt mind him seeing a few minutes at PG especially against the taller PGs in the league. In the Clips game, Lue was being torched by livingston and that is going to be a trend for the year whenever lue is in the game. Any news on Gaines?

I think he is on the inactive roster.

He must be really bad if he is beat out by Ward and Lue.

That sucks, cause he is supposedly a very good athlete and this team needs athletes.

He may be a good athlete but he is probably a bad 3 point shooter (even worse than Ward)

I thought he showed almost nothing during pre-season and is where he needs to be right now - on the practice squad. He'll have to work his way onto the 12 man roster if he can.

I'm forced to agree with this take.

What I saw from Reece wasnt very promising...

He needs alot fo work to be a productive player inthis league..I wouldnt be surprised if he takes some time to get decent...

he got very little playing time in ORL....very little time here...he basically hasnt had the necessary time to make the adjustment to the NBA....some players come in ready...adn some dont....some have the skills and just need some time to show it.....

I think Gaines will be a decent roleplayer....but Im not sure we will see it with the Rockets.

He is a 2, not a 1. Just because Orlando tried to make him a point guard doesn't mean that is his position. Nachbar beat him out.

But, yeah, he sucks right now so isn't playing.

Gaines and Nachbar are EXACTLY the reason the NBA needs a minor league system.

    Agreed!

I mean Gaines in particular....How is he being helped just being on our inactive roster? Sure he can practice with the team but how much does the team really practice during the season?

Gaines needs to PLAY. He needs GAME experience. Like DD said, this is EXACTLY why the NBA needs a minor league system. Get these players GAME time where they can improve their game and ultimately put a better NBA product on the floor for the customers.

This is what I don't understand, why Stern has not embraced a minor league system....put the teams in places where minor league baseball flourishes, like Round Rock etc...

It is just amazing that they are letting their product deteriorate so badly, when an easy fix is so obvious to us all.

It is all about the benjamins, right? If a minor league could pay for itself, there would be a minor league.

Not necessarily ... The NBA is even willing to take a loss with a true minor league like in MLB, but from what I understand this is a sticking point that the Players Association is against. I could be wrong, but I remember hearing something about this on ESPN Radio the other day.

speaking of scrub gaurds, heres a note from a philly newspaper

"Notes. Former Temple star David Hawkins, a late cut by the Houston Rockets, was at the game. He said Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy indicated to him that he'd like to bring him back at some point."

Reece Gaines looked terrible in preseason. If he didn't have a guaranteed contract, I'm sure he would have been cut.

Well the WNBA is consistently losing money and they still keep it going.

It doesn't have to be self sufficient if it has a long term effect of making the NBA a better league.

It is an investment by the NBA into their own product.
