I think YOLO wants something less subjective. Not a random opinion poll. You guys could come up with like 10 categories, put over/under numbers on them, than see who wins at the end. Better make it 11 categories. I'm just posting to watch! lol.
exactly. something that's actually measurable which was posted from the beginning. what kind of bet is solely based upon a poll of a fan board lol. things you see on this board. always a first
So pick what stat is going to make or break it for you. I’m not going to do 11 criteria to figure out if someone had a good season or not. For a rookie, it’s hard to find one aggregate stat that tells you whether he’s going to be good or not. Everyone knows this. Outside of maybe 4-5 rookies, every rookie is going to finish with mediocre “impact” stats because they’re learning. Capela, for example. But it was clear from watching Capela develop that he had the talent, drive and athleticism to be a good player. So, in all your wisdom, how do you want to break this down? The advantage of a subjective poll is that it allows people to account for all the myriad factors that determine - in their minds - if Melton is going to be good enough that we regret trading him. I am open to suggestions. I was a huge fan of Melton from the time we drafted him. It was clear Morey got a steal. So let me know how you want to judge him by year end.
Did I not post a bet about his 40% 3pt shooting that you specifically pointed out? How about actual games hell play for phx? How about how many points hell average? How many significant minutes hell get? I mean you were the one who has originally claimed to praise this player and that hell improve as the year goes on. it's really not that hard if you're that impressed for someone that's proven next to nothing thus far
I don’t think he will shoot 40% on the year. He was a 30% or so shooter in college. Here’s a few things I’ll be willing to bet on. He will shoot above 36% from 3 by the end of year. He will be in their 8-9 man rotation and play 20+ mpg by end of year. Over the last 6 weeks of the season, he will average 10 ppg or more. I bet he fulfills 2/3 Of those. Are those satisfactory?
Looking at face value, the Anderson move was clearly the worst. I understand the cap spike phenomenon that might justify the signing. But nobody would think that Ryno was worth that much. Even if the 20M annual salary was okay in light of the cap, the 4-year duration was just inexplicable. That said, I think a couple of years down the road, we will look back and see that the Chris Paul trade was a gamble that we lost, and it set us back several years of returning to contending status. Notice, I am not just saying the 4-year 160M contract. I am saying the trade. I assume that the large contract came with the trade in some implicit agreement. The 160M contract will look deader than Anderson's 80M contract. My view is that the trade for Paul was a gamble that might be worth taking but the risk was higher than most people think. CP of course greatly enhanced Harden's game. But his injury history, especially during critical times in a deep playoffs run, is something you do not take lightly. His injury at the end of Game 6 was not totally unexpected. In fact, he could last to that point was the reason we could go that far. Every game CP3 plays in the playoffs is in borrowed time. It is like a timed bomb. If the max contract indeed came with the trade, then you can see how high the risk really was. Also, Chris Paul's value was supposed to be more than his on court performance. There are two intangibles he is expected to bring. (1) His leadership, and (2) his ability to recruit/attract other stars. How good his leadership is is hard to gauge. His teams before he joined the Rockets were never known to be tough and resilient. We definitely do not see how his leadership is working this season. And the only "star" he has recruited so far is Melo, and we all know how it has turned out.
Morey went wrong when he believed in a system of "efficient shots" and did not find "efficient players" to make those efficient shots. Layups, threes, and free throws are the most efficient shots in the game. How many players can actually be efficient at all three? Only a handful of them and Golden State is the only team recently that can actually utilize that philosophy to the max. Stats are great and all but players still have to execute and make those stats what they are. James Harden is the model of efficiency but how many other players out there are like him? Last year was a helluva run and I don't know if they Rockets as currently constructed or in the future will ever have another run like that. The philosophy and system itself needs adjusting. In crunch time, I don't want the most efficient shot - I want the easy shot, the one that's going in - not bricking away 27 threes in a row hoping one would finally go in.
There were definitely some moves Morey could have done that would have put us in a better position than where we are now. I always wondered why we didn’t try to get a guy like Tony Parker for the MLE. But it’s hard to say that Morey was foolish to think we would be ok with this roster. Nobody predicted it would be this bad. Like literally. Find me ONE person that said we would be out of the playoffs.
Had to sign Ryno to get Gordon, though Morey’s confidence in his own system and Ryno’s lack of any skill outside of shooting was a huge mistake. Ariza and Luc is where Tilman and Morey made the biggest mistake, though I tend to believe Ariza didn’t want to come back.
Shooting specialists Getting younger stars to extend that window. Mistakes like Melo and MCW which leaves you scratching your head. Gambled on Ty Lawson......gambled too much. Dwightmare was above average to average performance, was past his prime. Also Ryno contract. The CP3 trade was also a gamble because of his ballhawking ways and injury history but it paid off surprisingly. I think he wanted to win bad therefore made it work. Led to a questionable contract.
I'll be blunt, I don't like Morey, never have. He is a bean counter. Prove to me that he knows squat about basketball. He is probably one of the worst drafting GM's in NBA history. Morey will give away first round draft choices for a basket of tacos. He doesn't seem to understand the concept of "team chemistry," at all. He is just awful about putting together a supporting cast. He has no concept of building a team over a period of years. It is like every season is a fruit basket turnover. I hate all the "fresh faces." I want a team that gains an identity and grows together, over time. Morey's claim to fame will always be the Harden trade; the most lopsided acquisition in NBA history. Think about where this team is going to be if they don't win it all this season. Next season? Where are the bridges to the future? The Paul acquisition is an all or nothing proposition engineered to produce dividends QUICK. It is all downhill teamwise from here. Where is the great young talent coming to give us a glorious future? Probably not the best time to create a thread like this but whatever.
lol well ill also be blunt. this post made no sense. reality pretty much disregards everything here. but looks like you have some kind of personal issue if you have all these complaints how sad it is when you have a championship caliber team right infront of you without ever completely sucking. yet you still have people out there like this. yeah pretty embarrassing. perhaps you'd rather get Billy King. that's all you
I dun think you get his POINT. We have an old contending team but NO Immediate Future. CP3 will continue to drop in performance. If we dun trade real pieces like Chris, Clint, we can't even get stars back. Not many assets and not many young prospects to look forward to. Morey could have done better and build a contender for a much larger window.
