Was Berkman ejected prior to the Astros officially putting Dotel in the game in the 8th inning? If so, was there a reason Williams didn't do a double switch? Even if he was only planning on having Dotel pitch one inning they could have preserved a pinch hitter by having Hunter bat 9th and Dotel 4th (since Berkman made the last out in the 8th). If he was planning on letting Dotel pitch as long as he could, then a double switch was definitely in order. Neither the Chronicle nor any recaps I read mentioned exactly when Berkman was ejected, although they imply it was right after his strike out.

It was right after his strikeout.

Berkman argued balls 'n strikes, always a bad idea.

The incident was really something, by the way. After Berkman snapped he got close enough to the umpire that the other infield umpires sprinted in for backup. As Berkman stormed back into the dugout, he tossed his batting helmet damn near the mound.

And you know what? While those pitches didn't look bad enough to pull an Albert Belle, it's good to see an Astro showing some damn fire for once.
