i was thinking about hakeem's retirement and the lack of a "victory lap" and i was wondering: when is the last time that a superstar rocket announced he was going to retire before the season started, so that he could get his due (not just in houston, but in away games also)...

for that matter who's the last big star for any team?

john stockton and david robinson in 2003. in the past couple of years guys have made last minute decision right before the season started, others just signed on with a tv station as a broadcaster as a way of saying "im not gonna play anymore."
