Thought it'd be cool for everyone to weigh in on what their primary PC is, as I figure some people here (like myself) are geeks. I'm lookin' to do some Rockets themed case-modding soon (when I get my Dremel tool -- hopefully for Christmas [IMG] )

    My System (aka Shodan) :
Athlon (Slot A) 750 Mhz Overclocked at 787 Mhz
    Asus K7V mobo
    128 Megs PC133 RAM
    Voodoo 3 3500 TV (overclocked from 183 to 200Mhz)
one 15 gig 7200RPM HD and one 3.2 gig
    SB Live!

Running dual-boot Linux (RH 6.2) and WinME

Anyone else do any overclocking, etc? What's your PC?

Why would you overclock a 750 Mhz processor to 787 Mhz? Do you really think you're going to see any noticeable benefit from it?

You're just gonna **** your system up.

Anyway: Dell Dimension XPS B, 600 Mhz, 128 MB RAM, 12 GB HD, 17" monitor. Pretty standard. I don't even like computers much so it didn't make much sense to go hog wild when I bought this one. [IMG]

I don't see the point in overclocking your system by only 37 MHz. Overall your system will only experience negligible improvement performance-wise...likely so slight that you won't even notice. Hopefully your PC has a good cooling system, because overclocking generally causes the processor to run hotter & shortens the life of it....especially if you intend to overclock it more than you already have.

Anyway, my PC is crap....but despite a few mishaps here and there I'm pretty much satisfied with it. For now.

    Brand: Hewlett-Packard
Processor: Intel Pentium II 233 MHz w/ MMX technology
    HDD #1: 2.5 gig 5400 RPM
HDD #2: 13 gig 5400 RPM (Western Digital)
RAM: 64 MB (plan to upgrade to 128 MB soon since RAM is so cheap)
CD-ROM: Sony 24X CD-ROM (plan to replace this with a Plextor CD-RW drive soon)
    Tape Drive: Colorado T3000
Video: Integrated into the motherboard (I hate that)
    Sound Card: Creative Sound-Blaster (16 channels I think....standard stuff)
    OS: Windows 98: Second Edition
Monitor: 15" Magnavox w/ attached speakers on both sides
    Iomega USB 100MB Zip Drive
    Printer: Hewlett Packard 882C DeskJet
Modem: 3Com Sportster 56K Faxmodem (internal)
NIC: Basically your standard 3Com Ethernet card

I'm going to learn how to build my own computer. With AMD Athlons and Durons, 700-900 MHz dropping down into the $70 - $125 range, and expected to drop further in about 5 weeks, hell I could build my own top-of-the-line PC for well under $1,000.

I ended up going for "cheap" when I bought my computer last year, so I have a:

eMachines Celeron 366, 64MB RAM, 3.4 GB HD (primary), 8.4 GB HD (secondary), CD-ROM, video and audio on the motherboard (I hate that, too, but when you go cheap, it's what you usually get), firewire card, ethernet card.

I have another identical machine on the way (I ordered it yesterday) so I can have computers on the network in each room of my apartment (sometimes there are times I want to work in the bedroom, sometimes I want to work in the living room). I got one of those Linksys routers and a workgroup hub to set up a network.

I also have a 180 MHz PowerMac Clone, but I don't like it, so I don't use it very often.

I'm not really sure. I just bought a couple more, I think...or maybe it was a rack. What's a rack? And why do they need to put Raid in them; I mean, "bugs" is just a figure of speech, No? My admin won't tell me what they are, and I'm not allowed to take them home. I am supposed to share.

Damn! I can't even play with my own toys.

I also have a Dell desktop that I'm about to pawn off on someone and get either a Dell or Compaq laptop.

I couldn't possibly go into more detail than that. I am still rather ignorant of the meanings of all those numbers.
