This is not about what is your favorite food, what would you have as your last meal, etc. This is about 'comfort food'. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, comfort food is that which makes you feel good, comfortable, homey, whatever description you want. It is often the kind of food you turn to when things are going badly, but not for everyone. For others it can be the food you want when you're sick, or what you like to curl up with when it's really storming outside. There are many interpretations, and no wrong answers, and probably many people don't have a comfort food of choice. For me it's Lucky Charms, toast and peach jam, or chicken noodle soup and crackers. There are different reason for each, probably, but I'm not sure that it can be explained as simply as I'd like, so I'll just leave it at that. What's yours?
Hell no! Cereal might be the single most underrated food on earth! Women in particular don't seem to understand that, for a single man, cereal is often breakfast, lunch and dinner! I have no doubt that the 2 greatest inventions for the single man are 1. the microwave oven and 2. cold cereal!
any Oreo cookie and vanilla ice cream/yogurt combination. I will go out and get an Oreo cookie blizzard on occasion. Can't beat it.
I find few things as comforting as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (on lightly toasted bread, cut on the diagonal). I ate that for lunch every day from kindergarden through my senior year in high school, and it's never let me down. My comfort drink is strong coffee with a little bit of half and half. It wakes me up, settles my stomach, gives me energy to face the day and just generally makes me happy. Oh and ... Trust me, it's the same for some single women, too. Mr. JB can attest to the fact that when we first met, cereal was the mainstay of my diet. Thankfully, I've since added some non-boxed meals to my routine.
Crackers, pop tarts, and my girlfriend. ... Okay, bad joke. But Saltines and those keebler club cracker things? Good stuff.
that reminds me... yah ROSCOE's... hmm #4 All thigh... with a Large Lisa's Delight... mmmm.... This for me is comfort food...
Mrs. JB reminded me of something I used to have... peanut butter, sliced banana and cinnamon on light toast. And coffee, black. Yummy. Anything my Mom cooks, or anything she cooks that I manage to cook myself and not screw up is the ticket. Beef stew... putting it on a piece of bread folded over kinda like a taco... chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, baked beans, creamed corn, peas and homemade biscuits... smothered steak in the oven with oven browned potatoes and fresh black-eyed peas with snaps... a big slice of ham with a brown sugar glaze with homemade macaroni and cheese and green beans... BBQ... man, I am REALLY getting hungry! And my 12 year old son is a vegetarian. Go figure. That's the kind of stuff that makes me feel fomfotable.
Macaroni and cheese, the kind baked with eggs in it. I was supposed to make a pan of it for this week, if I can find time to cook. Makes a good breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. I don't really like that many "traditional" comfort foods, though. People often associate it with southern homestyle or bland American cafeteria-style food, which is what I've always hated (even though I'm white and from the south). What really makes me feel better is something spicy, especially a good green curry. Or the green chicken enchiladas from the Alamo Cafe (San Antonio). These particular chile peppers must help you put out endorphins or something.
