Missing the playoffs by 1 game.

or having the best record in the league, and get manhandled in the first round being the first team in nba history to lose a series from being up 3-0?

the mavs dont have the best record in the league, they have the second best, but that being said:

60-22 was the best record achieved in the league this year. the mavs were 60-22, thus they had the best record, as did san antonio.

and honestly, i'd say the mavs would be worse off, and not just to console myself about us not making it. i'll feel a little bad about this season in the future, it would be hard to ever get over blowing a 3-0 lead after having the best record. i'd just as soon the oilers hadn't made the playoffs back in 1992-3.

The fact that Dallas had the best record in the league, yet were forced to be the third seed sucks.

I think it's fair, but it just ain't right.

I thought of an interesting playoff format, where the top seed or top 4 seeds could select who they want to play (of the other 4 playoff contendors).

So, say Sacramento had the best record, they could select any team that is eligible for the playoffs. Normally, you would think it would be the 8th seed, but say it was ateam that beat them 4 straight by 40 points in the regular season; then the number one seed could select another team that they dominated or felt they could play better against.

it wouldn't change much, considering the best team would still most likely play the worst team.

It could be a selection show like the Draft Lottery or the Kentucky Derby gate position show.

    Just a thought.

If you think that's more fair you might as well adjust the playoff format to combine all EC and WC teams, so that 1st seed (Spurs) plays 18th seed (Magic). Let's face it, no EC team is gonna win anything anytime soon.

Then the 4 seed would get screwed? records don't always say how good a team is. Ask detroit or orlando.

Not making it ALWAYS sucks, period.

Especially when you don't even have the lottery to look forward to. The two best records in history that didn't get into the playoffs...whoop dee do...out of the playoffs is out of the playoffs anyway you slice it or try to sugar coat it.

I'd like to see a combination of the EC and WC teams battling, and go and match up 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, etc. But then almost all the Eastern teams would be eliminated in the 1st round :D
