Houston Rockets ranked the best half-court defense while Asik was on the floor. With Asik or Dwight on the floor at all times, Houston will likely rank the best half-court defense in the league all 48 minutes. Daryl Morey said in an interview that having Asik for 15 minutes is more valuable than a borderline All-Star upgrade at the 4, indicating that Asik will not be traded. However, I think everyone has their price, the question is what's Morey's price for Asik? Morey managed to move Lowry to Toronto for a 1st round pick, and personally I think Asik is more valuable than Lowry was because of the high demand for elite rebounding defensive centers. Teams do seem to be getting smarter, but I won't be surprised if Morey pulls it off.
I was supposed to add a poll to this but messed up when my window crashed. I was just trying to gauge what price most people would be willing to part with Asik for.
We now have the two best defensive big men in the league. We aren't giving it up unless there is all-star available.
At Asik's contract, I think Morey's being completely sincere and will give the Asik/Howard experiment at least until Feb. No one available right now is worth losing him at $8.3M
Morey never said this. He said Asik was worth more as a backup than an upgrade at PF. But this is GM-speak for "no one's willing to pay what I have in mind for Asik's value." Besides, with Dwight signing, you'd expect the first wave of calls to Morey being a bunch of low-ball offers. Other GMs wouldn't be GMs if they didn't at least explore the idea that the Rockets will sell low on Asik. But Morey's obviously not budging. He'd rather hang on to a solid asset and under-play him, than to sell him 50 cents on the dollar.
Asik deserves to be a starter. We should trade him to okc, miami, lakers, celtics or dallas. But i dont know what we can get from this teams.
Morey will keep him unless he gets full value back. As the offseason progresses, Omer's value will rise due to team's realizing their need for a center hasn't been filled.
I don't think we will be moved till December. If not December similar to when Lowry was moved. This is a bit for fetched by I think Morey is secretly working with Mitch on some kind of three team deal that can mutually beneficial for all parties. With so many role players being signed I think the Rockets maybe more open to doing SnT that can net them more pieces.
Problem is if we do not trade Asik right now his value will be lower next season. Going to a backup role his stats will not look quite as good and his contract will have jumped up.
I think if we're going to trade him, in other GM's eyes, the sooner the better. This is due to the structure of his contract. They're going to want to get him for (roughly) 5m and 15m versus waiting and getting him for 1 year, 15m, although that is a nice expiring. I don't think I'm explaining this well. Bottom line, they want as much of the the 5m year as they can get since, unless he's traded, they're going to have to pay for his last year, and it will help offset that. I keep wondering how this will play a role in trading him. I know the cap hit is the most important thing, but 5m vs 15m is still huge. Edit: basically, the longer we wait, the more the value of his contract diminishes.
