Endymion, by Dan Simmons (the 3rd book in the Hyperion series) I'm still waiting for The Da Vinci Code and Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla to come out in paperback this spring/summer.
Endymion is great. I love the Hyperion series. I am reading "Under The Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith" by Jon Krakauer. Its great. I just finished "The Life of Pi" by Yann Martel, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it. Next up: "I Should Be Extremely Happy in Your Company: A Novel of Lewis and Clark" by Brian Hall. Thank god reality TV is so terrible, I have been reading like a madman over the past year and a half.
reading like 3 books at once: Just finished "The Jungle" by Sinclair. A book I had never read before, despite studying its historical importance in school. Man, that's some rough stuff. "Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis. Second time reading this, but reading it this time with a discussion group. Just starting "The Twelve Caesars".
Wolves of the Calla! Book 5 of my favorite series. I'm only about 60 pages into it so far. I am also eagerly anticipating the paperback release of Order of the Phoenix.
I am notorious for not wanting to read things, but I am reading the New Testament - almost through with the book of Matthew. Sometime this summer, I need to read this dog book I got for Christmas.
Reading Le Morte D'Arthur by Sir Thomas Mallory. Actually pretty interesting as a story as well as an artifact of history. It'll have you talking funny after reading it for awhile though.
I tried slogging through that a while ago, but didn't get very far. You have to be in a certain mindset to read something like that. I'll give it another go someday.
I'm currently reading 'The Big Nowhere' by James Ellroy. I'd read all of the old school noir like Chandler, and Hammet. But I recently moved to Los Angeles and wanted to read something with that prominently features Los Angeles. I read 'The Black Dahlia' first and I'm now reading the 'Big Nowhere'. Reading these kind of hard boiled books also helps with something I'm reading, so it's both for enjoyment and research. I read this a couple years ago. I really enjoyed it. I also liked comparing how various movies were similar and different to Mallory's version. It was cool.
I'm only about 50 pages in, but read that starting a 1:00am Sunday night/Monday morning when I couldn't sleep. I'm actually going to try one of the things they do next time I play blackjack. It won't help me win hands for certain, but if I can do it (which there's a good chance I can't), then I might be able to control how much I win and lose a little bit more.
I enjoyed it! got a great mix of history (especially religious history), symbology, physics, philosophy, metaphysics, Indiana Jones type adventure.
