For all you fitness buffs or dieters out there: What is your motivation? What makes you want to drag yourself out of bed in the morning and hit the treadmill at the gym? What makes you put in a good weight lifting session after a strenuous day at work? What makes you skip the free cake and ice cream at a party? Simply put, what motivates ya'll?

My motivation is simple. I am only going to live once and I want to look damn good. I see those guys on the fitness magazine nd think to myself I wanna look that good.

Of course I will never get to that level, but one needs to aim high to get somewhere good. If you aim low then ou might as well not even work out.

Good question since I'm on a diet... 18LBS lost in about a month :)

I just make weekly goals in terms of losing a little bit of weight each week. Once I get to my weekly goal it feels pretty darn good. Thats my motivation to for working out. To do that includes reducing the sweets I try to limit myself to one unhealthy snack a day or so. That's been working for me.

you stolean my line! well, the reason is I am bored and I enjoy working out in gym. by the way, I won't get fat if I don't work out, I would only get skining, my body fat is like 5% or less. yea, I know, some people are blissed to have a body like mine :D

    To look good naked.

Isn't that why everyone works out?

    pretty much.

oh and to be better at basketball. i love that i can shoot from farther out now (even though i haven't worked out very regularly and am still weak) with the same effort.

the one thing i hate the most is the last 5 pushups (i'd bench press if i had a bench, someone to spot me, and the right kind of weights, but alas i don't). i hate, hate, hate it. you wanna stop, but you know you gotta go until your arms just give out to actually accomplish something, and each last one hurts more than the previous one. but that soreness feels kinda good once you're done.

Because being a fat ass sucks. I don't ever want to miss out on fun (like playing pick up ball with buddies) because I'm too fat to do it. I'm not in great shape by any means but I'm still in good enough shape not embarrass myself when I'm doing a physical activity.

It's very hard for me to stay motovated to exercise. I have worked out/exercised off and on my whole life but, until recently, have not been able to keep it up. It's even harder after you get married and start working regularly. The "get chicks" motovation is now not as strong (although EVERYONE wants to look good for chicks regardless of what they say or their maritial status) and it's harder to find the time (or make the time).

So I found something to do that I find VERY enjoyable and fun and, by coincidence, gives me a pretty good aerobic workout: Cycling.

I started riding cycling (road bikes) about three years ago and promptly loss about 20 pounds with little change in my (bad) diet. However, after I started losing weight I found myself wanting to eat LOTS of food less often. I could eat smaller portions and be full. Weird. Currently I try to ride at least 80 miles a week with 100 being "normal" and I've done the MS150 the last three years.

I use a heartrate monitor to make sure the I spend about 1 hour per ride with an elevated heart rate (but my competitive nature ensures that I push my speed rather then ride casually).

So, I get my motovation by finding exercise that is fun and the exercise is a by product. Works for me.
