WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MING IS FORCED TO GO BACK TO CHINA WHEN HIS NATIONAL TEAM HAS A GAME AND WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NBA SEASON? OR IF WE MAKE IT INTO THE WESTERN FINALS AND MING HAS TO GO AWAY AND WE ARE STUCK PLAYING THE LAKERS OR KINGS? WHAT IF THE SOMETHING IMPORTANT OR TRAGIC HAPPENS IN CHINA AND MING HAS TO GO BACK ( I KNOW ALL THE FANS AND MANAGEMENT WILL UNDERSTAND IF HE LEAVES, BUT IT WILL STILL HURT US) ...WE WILL BE IN BIG TROUBLE NOT PLAYING WITH OUR STARTING CENTER. I HOPE WE TRADE DOWN WITH GOLDEN STATE. MING NAMED GOLDEN STATE AS A PLACE WHERE HE WOULD PLAY. AND WE CAN GET RICHARDSON OR JAMISON AND THEIR 3RD PICK. THAT IS THE BEST SITUATION FOR US.
NJPOCKETROCKET THANKS FOR THE SARCASM, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR WHAT EVERYONE ELSE THINKS , BUT THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING.
That type of stuff will be settled before we draft Ming. We'll work with the NBA and the Chinese government to see what's going on. If they want him to miss training camp or even games then that will obviously hurt his stock. It will be part of the contract when he can go back and what for. If we put it in the contract that he can't leave in the middle of the season, etc. and he does to play a CBA game or something then the NBA and China will have major issues. I think the Chinese want the media attention and want their players to come and play in front of a huge media market like the one the NBA provides. It gives them prestige. Why would the Chinese want Ming to come back and play exhibition games there when their country will get more recognition if he plays in the NBA? I can understand if they want him to do things in the offseason (understand in my pretending to be a socialist kind of way) like the Olympics and whatnot, but the NBA is the opportunity they're looking for to showcase their country. You don't really want to look like an a$$hole when someone gives you an opportunity like that. There are a lot of questions but I think it will be resolved prior to the draft. I think CD mentioned that the NBA and China are talking about these kinds of things right now.

Found this story on the internet: Zhi Zhi Fruits Memo to all NBA coaches, GMs, and team owners, everywhere: Don't order any Chinese tonight. This is not just me picking at Chinese bball players. No, it goes deeper than that. The Chinese government is talking about never permitting Wang Zhi Zhi to play basketball in America again. Why? I have yet to hear the reason, but someone is upset about something. The Chinese Government also may not allow Yao Ming to play (depending on who he gets drafted by), and have a series of demands for the teams that pick him, among them half of Ming's money earned the U.S. and a thriving Chinese community. What exactly would constitute such a community we do not know. Anyhow, this all appears to be a ridiculous smokescreen for what is really going on: The Chinese Government is embarrassed by the performance of their best players here in America. Think about it. Chinese children here in America are almost always pressured to be the best students. In the workplace they are driven to excel beyond the average American. In China, children have committed suicide when they were not successful scholastically. So, to see Wang Zhi Zhi go out there and do practically nothing in the playoffs must be galling for the Chinese in the extreme. The hard reality is that Wang is probably not even in the top 200 of NBA ballplayers. In China he was awesome, but over here is basically a soft big man that shoots threes because he can't play in the paint. His shortcomings in the American game are obvious to everyone, and his government does not have the patience to leave him here for the 3 or 4 years it would take for him to become good. Wang's lack of success is now making China hesitant to let any more of their stars play over here in the States.

Ok Greg, if you REALLY want a serious answer... Why do you think he'll leave us in the middle of the season or the playoffs? Do you know the Chinese Basketball Association schedule? If he signs an NBA contract, he has to live up to that contract, which means playing through to the end of the season and the playoffs. And what is this "something important or tragic happening" that you speak of? Is China going to start WWIII and force Ming to join the service? Do you foresee Ming's entire family being held hostage in order to force him to come back to China? Trust me, Greg-Oh...These people in the NBA front offices don't get to where they are at by being stupid. They will plan for stuff like that... Now, I will translate this post into GrEgO-ese, so he will be able to understand it OK GREG, IF YOU REALLY WANT A SERIOUS ANSWER WHY DO YOU THINK HE'LL LEAVE US IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON OR THE PLAYOFFS?
