didnt hakeem have a brother playin at uh or something?or is that wrong? if not,did he ever go on to play elsewhere like overseas or anything?
Hakeem had a younger brother, Afis, that played for UTSA if I remember correctly. I know he had one more brother that lived in Houston, but I don't know if he pursued basketball. A few years ago, one of his brothers was deported (or, was in the process of being deported).
I remember Afis and Taju... I hope I spelled those right. Did he have another named Akin or something? I dunno. Didn't one of them go to Marion Christian? Or was that the legendary Tito Horford... it's all coming back to me now... wait... no... it's all going away.
Hakeem's two youngest brothers both played basketball at Marian Christian and at UTSA. Taju was a 6'7" PF and Afis was a 6'4" G/F. Originally, Taju had signed with Indiana State along with Larry Bird's younger brother, but I don't believe that he ever ended up playing for them.
DOD, Marian had Taju (6'7"), Afis (6'4"), Tito Horford (7'1"), Perry Russell (6'9") and the 6'8" guard (Steve Smith?). Initally Smith, Russell and Horford all signed with UH. Horford, of course, ended up at LSU and then eventually Miami. Smith played a year or two at UH and then transfered to Hawaii. Russell was a role player at UH. If I'm not mistaken, prior to those guys, Bruno Kongowon and Fred Gaporo, the HBU standouts also played at Marian. In the early to mid '80's that place was a basketball factory.
What happened to Horford after his college career? I remember I was really pissed at the whole debacle at UH. Oh, and isn't Boki's brother playing for UH?
Horford was drafted by the Bucks in the 2nd round. He stuck on their roster for two years (mostly on IR). He went to Europe for a while and then eventually came back for a year with the Bullets. Here's an interesting twist. Check out this link: http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=19938&Sport=2 It's a profile on a 6'9" HS PF named Al Horford. The bio note states "Horford is the son of former NBA center Tito Horford. " He's signed with Florida. Boki's brother is a walk-on at UH.
Tito has a son going to college already?! Man, he's fast. I don't know. He was so promising, projected to be a great player. I guess the UH-LSU scandal kinda stiffle his development. Thanks, aeilliot.
