If Person becomes available on the market, as looks to be the case, would the Rockets be interested? He was a fine shooter not so long ago. Has his game just dried up that bad, or was he caught in a numbers game in Miami? Any insights? Story below. http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/rumorcentral?sport=nba Jan. 31 - Person wants to be either waived or traded, he told the Jan. 29 South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He's filed a complaint against the Heat via the players' union after he was placed on the injured list with tendinitis in his right knee. The Heat needed the roster spot after signing former Blazer Qyntel Woods. Person says he does not have that ailment. It's against league rules to stash players on the injured list without his consent, the newspaper reports. If Person pursues this case and an independent physician confirms his claim that his knee is fine, the Heat must either reinstate Person or declare him a free agent. The Heat have tried to trade Person, but his $1.8 million salary for the 2005-06 season is a sticking point, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
I don't see how he fits in here. The guy can still shoot, but unlike Barry, Sura and D. Wesley, he has no other dimension to his game. He can't play D. He doesn't pass well, he doesn't rebound and he doesn't run. I'd pass. I'd bet money that if Miami ends up releasing him, you'd never see him in the NBA again.
Codell, so what you're saying is, Wesley is basically what Pike was for us last year. .....and we saw as the season went on how much Pike was used.
Wesley brings more to the table than Pike. Wesley is a lot quicker, he's a much better defender as well as a better ball handler/passer. Wesley is better than Pike, if that is what you were getting at.
No, that's not what I was getting at actually. I was just using Codell's basic description of Person's game to relate to Pike's experience here last season to illustration the reason why we probably wouldnt trade for Person.
exactly I think its become clear that JVG does not favor one dimensional players, especially if one of their weaknesses is defense Pike and Wesley are a good comparsion as far as types of players ....without even looking, I would bet their career stats are pretty similar on a per 48 min basis (I would think that Person probably averages more career mins per game than Pike).
