I would love for the Rockets to pick him up if he would sign on for the vet minimum, even after we get Mutombo. With Yao's fatigue and foul troubles, and Deke's age; it would great to have another 7-footer that can block some shots available to come in at any time. But, I can't imagine him deciding to come here to be behind two guys.
He should be happy just to be on any team right now. He just got waived by the Cavs and they have nobody worth even talking about other that Z in the post. That says something...

Don’t we have to pick up another big guy since there is no way Deke would make it through a whole 82 game season + playoffs. I mean, the 6-9 guys (Mo T, Spoon & Howard) can’t really play center on a regular basis if Deke went down.
God, how many times are we going to have to over this? Cleveleand releasing Hunter was a pre-arranged deal. He agreed to resign with Orlando so salaries would match and the Battie/Gooden trade would work. In return, Cleveland promised to release him so he could be an unrestricted free agent. I think Hunter could be decent for us if we could get him for cheap and allow him to develop behing Yao and Mutombo. By the time Deke is gone, we'd have someone with a very similar game ready to step in and fill his shoes.
