I dont know if this is even possible but as long as we are gonna be talking about bringing in a good head coach to Houston. And we dont want Silas, or Gundy. So why not go after Jerry Sloan from the Utah Jazz (if you are a rocket fan you have to hate the Jazz) but its Jerry Sloan guys he is probably one of the best coaches out there that might be avaliable. With the departure of Stockton. And Malone probalby not wanting to end his career with the Jazz, I dont see why Sloan might still want to coach in Utah there is nobody good to coach there anyway. Just an idea wanted to see what others might think about it. If this idea was already posted before, sorry for posting it again.
Why would anyone have posted it before? You do know Sloan is the antichrist don't you? Oh, and how do they say? Ah yes, bring your posting to a halt.
I would take him in a heart beat. I don't care if he coach for the Jazz or not. All this I hate the Jazz crap is stupid. He is one of the best coaches in the league. I would take him and Karl Malone!
Best coach or not, I may become a Jazz fan before I see Sloan on Rockets bench. Somethings are not done. Period. like Shaq in a Rockets uniform, or a white man who plays well for Rockets (Air Bull not considered white due to bad back!!), or Moochie playing in the NBA..forgot the mid-tier PG money that he is making. Well.....well....Merlot is acting on me....but I swear I will stop following Rockets if Sloan joins us.
The only good thing that might come out of this is that he'll instill some discipline in a few, let's say 'unnamed' individuals on the team with itchy trigger fingers and erratic mental capacities... but Sloan's bad far outweighs his good. No.
damn right...it isn't even a rivalry anymore. The days of Olajuwon/Barkley/Drexler battling Stock and Malone are LOOOOOONG gone. to tell you guys the truth...I hated stockton for only about a week after he made that 3 and malone for only a month for his bearhugging pick. The rivalry is gone and I am being honest when I say I don't hate the jazz or anyone on their team anymore. Maybe ostertag for being big country's wannabe b**** (two of the most worthless players ever....maybe less talent than mark madsen or jack haley).
I would take Sloan. I wonder why he'd take this job? Job 1 : Use Ming. Job 2 : de-knucklehead Francis. Job 3 : Make them a duo. Job 4 : Make the players a team. Job 5 : Make them play like men. Job 2 sucks. You got to love a challenge. Job 4 and 5 are right up his alley. But I don't know if he'd be eager to go with Job 1, 2, and 3. What's in it for him? Is he still driven?
has anyone else noticed how sloan never tells his players to go into the game...he just points w/o saying a word...just thought i'd point that out...
There might be no next stockton to malone/malone to stockton. But why not it be the next francis to ming/ming to francis. Or be one of the next most hated teams in the league. Come on guys Sloan can make that happen, and the houston fans need more entairtainment from the bench all our coaches and playes just sit there, Rudy had his moments but with Sloan you dont know what he might do. And who knows Malone might fallow Sloan to Houston, that be nice.
The idea of Malone in a Rockets uni is akin to sacrilege as far as I'm concerned, but I wouldn't mind having Sloan around. You can't deny that he is a great coach, and if he doesn't have a ring yet, you can say that the blame must be spread among Jordan and Malone's historical chokes. He does more with less, gets his players to commit to a proven system, knows the half-court game like few do. What's not to like? Well, he has coached the antichrists for ages, and he really hasn't worked with a legitimate low post threat in a looong while, if ever. Malone is more of a jump shooter. That being said, he certainly would be a great improvement in the area we are sorely lacking: X's and O's, something that can't be said about Silas.
The Sloan idea gets the big thumbs down. I don't see his style befitting our core players, and vice versa.
His style might not be BEFITTING, but I think it would be APPROPRIATE. Are you in effect saying someone who demands discipline, hard work and professionalism wouldn't be good for the Rockets? I'm with you in that Sloan is a bad idea (I hate him and there's alot of bad blood), but I'm definitely for a Sloan/Poppovich type character for coach rather than that of a Don Nelson mold... Most Rockets players need to mature. They've been given too much free reign from where I see it... and until they can show signs of self-discipline/motivation etc. they'll need someone to bark it to them on a consistent basis.
What are you guys thinking? The only criteria for a coach should be making this team play better than the talent. Sloan as a player was not athletic. He found ways to beat his opponents with his head. As a coach he has taught his players how to get an advantage and win. He instills discipline into his players minds. That's coaching. So many young kids today would rather look good than play fundamental basketball. Our current iso and one-on-five style fits the current trend. Most of the posts on this board abhor that style. The antithesis to that trend is Sloan. Yes the Rockets embarassed themselves many times making mental errors against Utah while Utah took advantage of the situation. Why not bring someone in to teach the Rockets to play smart?
Moving away from the "Jerry is the Devil" concept (you can work Seinfeld into anything ), there is NO indication that Sloan will have success with younger players. Until now, he has had a veteran team with tough-nosed players that mirror his style, but the league is changing. Doug Collins was a taskmaster and he has had to alter his style to keep from alienating his players and even he needed Jordan as an advocate just to get him to come out of the broadcast booth. Pat Riley is having the worst stretch of his professional career. George Karl was criticized for OVER-criticizing players like Ray Allen and causing them to get dumped in the playoffs again. The days of "my way or the highway" coaching in the NBA are over. I'm just not sure a guy like Sloan would be able to force any of his players to do anything. You don't want the inmates running the asylum, but cracking the whip just doesn't go as far with players as it used to either. Players just don't respond to that any more.
