So, say some big successful company offers you 50K to work for them and the company you work for offers you 70K. Which offer are you going to take? Even in the million dollar levels this theory is applicable. The fact that Houston is a better team doesn't mean anything. If anything that works against us because if he would sign with Houston why not just sign with defending champion San Antonio Spurs who happen to lack talent at the center position and could use Darko there to spread the floor? Only way this deal goes down is via sign and trade.
I'm sure as a competitor he wants to carve up his own legacy and make his own mark and signing with the spurs would be too easy and as a competitior he probably would want to go to a good situation where he can come right in and play but make his own mark on the game, especially if that team needs him as a piece to get over that hump, playing in a system that really fits his game. The economic part he is going to have to figure that out himself,But if I was Darko I wouldn't keep putting myself in sitautions that really don't compliment my game. I'm not a extreme capitalist so me personally I would put myself in the best situation that fits my evolution as a human being first.
That doesn't make sense. Signing with Orlando would be too hard. Signing with San Antonio would be too easy. But signing with Houston... nothing wrong with that. He would be just as useful in San Antonio as he would be in Houston. And if I'm Darko, I look at how successful San Antonio has been at developing their young guys (Parker and Ginobli) and that might look better for my development than going to Houston. I hate to be a negative guy here, but you have to look at this situation realistically. Its only going to happen in a S&T situation. He's not going to choose us in free agency over San Antonio. Why? Its not like he's going to average 20/10 in Houston and San Antonio rather than 10/8 in Orlando. In fact, its probably the opposite. And in any case, he'll have a 5 year contract so by the time he has to worry about getting another contract it won't matter.
"We want Darko to go to a team that believes in him and makes him a focal point," he said. "If it's Orlando, great. If it's one of the other 29 teams, then that's fantastic, too." Is he looking to be a superstar by himself? If he signed with us, we could pretty much guarantee him a starting spot unless he shows up really unmotivated ala stro swift. He may be the missing link to a championship caliber club...would that entice him? I don't think he's done enough in the NBA to warrant himself a spot as a "focal point" player, but he may be an important piece if he were with us. He's got range, passing ability, shot blocking ability...isn't a real banger down low, but we do have Chuck and Landry who can bang. He's got the size and athleticism that we need, its just a matter of his attitude that may be in question.
That was whole different sitaution. Kenny thomas got minutes in sacramento but if adelman had his choice he would play miller at the 4 and keep vlade that final season at the 5 and play darius songalia the minutes kenny thomas had.
Well hsi agent said it here: "We want Darko to go to a team that believes in him and makes him a focal point," he said. "If it's Orlando, great. If it's one of the other 29 teams, then that's fantastic, too." He is young he hasn't done anything significant yet in the NBA, He wanst to be a focal point and use his skills to the maximum of his abilties. He could od that here because of adelman and the system. The offense will start through him and yao. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh-lKZe0SJo= Darko will be intiating the offense, either him or yao.
Sacramento kings offense begins through the big guy's. The high post players intiate the O.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh-lKZe0SJo
I agree with most of your thoughts, but disagree here. Darko is only 22. His next contract should be his big one. Barring any major implosion of the NBA, contracts will only continue to get bigger ever year. At 27, Darko needs to have proven that he is a highly, highly sought after player. Heck, convince him he can become a max player if you have to. If he can get a $10 million contract now in a situation where he thinks that's possible, more power to him. But, if he thinks it more beneficial to his game to sign for a little less, but blossom into that all-star type PF, then he should do that. Personally, if I was him, I'd go for the money, because I don't think he has that level of talent quite in him, so if you can get paid now before people truly realize what you should be getting paid, do it. I'm just saying, I can understand the other line of reasoning.
It seems like he wants a lot of money. He hasn't done anything to warrant a huge sum. I'm very concerned about his attitude.
We want Darko to go to a team that believes in him and makes him a focal point," he said. "If it's Orlando, great. If it's one of the other 29 teams, then that's fantastic, too." If he comes here he will defintely with how adelman wants to play be a focal point.
You just don't get it do You? Darko is looking for a place in the NBA where his potential is respected . He does not want to be a small cog assisting the big wheel. In San Antonio this would never happen, at best he would become a role player backing up Tim Duncan and would be forced to play the game to suit their stars. In Houston starting off fresh with a new coach and a new system where the coach is going to try and use and bring out the best in each player, Darko would have a significant role as our starting Power Forward. A position on which the coach & team would depend on him and what he brings to the game. Darko would gain in statature as he would be an important building block of the team. Darko possibly seeks enhansement & encouragement of such a position and a developing coach.
would it be beneficial to sign a short term deal at the MLE, then resign him when we/other teams have more cap space? therefore, if he does prove to be a good player in our system, we reward him with a bigger contract in 3 years or he can look elsewhere for a deal that satisfies him. i know it doesnt sound ideal on the rockets part, but it may be the only way Darko comes here unless he's satisfied with full MLE for 5 years, which i dont think he will be.
If the Rockets wanted to develop a player with potential they would've gotten one in the draft. Darko does not sound like what the Rockets are after. I hope he gets his 10 million just as long it's not from the Rockets.
good post. Brooks and Landry don't have potential? Darko doesn't deserve anywhere close to 10 M. Dude barely deserves a full MLE offer.
We HAVE to have something at PF, I just don't see a better option than Darko at PF. Give him the MLE, and then sign Webber to a LLE deal to back up. Size wise, there isn't any body he can't guard in the league. He is young, he has some offensive skills and might be waiting to explode into a great player for good value. Other than his questionable desire, I don't really see a downside. Hopefully we can get him.
Well, to me it all depends on how Darko plays. Does his play compliment Yao Ming? Where does he like to post up? Because I think that McGrady is getting to a point in his career that he is ecstatic getting 15 assists a game if he could and 0 points. Plus Darko from my recollection is a very capable shot blocker. Darko could and most definaltely engrain himself as a corner stone of this franchise as it gets ready to go on is championship winning streak during the next couple of seasons. Yao ----? Darko --- Landry -- Hayes Battier --Wells ---- Novak McGrady -(Head) Brooks --- (V-Span) James, Alston, Mutumbo, and Snyder are short timers in my book; just for a couple of season if that much! Hopefully the Championship start coming while they are still here. Man that team could grow into a dynasty!
