It seems politically difficult to push for gun controls. What about ammo controls? I guess people don't need more than three or bullets for self defense, right? Doing this at least can prevent a massacre like this. What do you think?
Do you shoot? Whenever I get to go to the range, I usually go through 150+ rounds. I only shoot handguns for enjoyment. I leave them locked at the house at other times.
Holy ****...if you can't keep the guns out of law abiding citizens hands, keep the ammo from law abiding citizens. I guess I should stock up on my 165 grain Federal HST...you know, the .40 rounds that flower out to the size of a quarter.
I don't go out to shoot. I think you can still enjoy shooting at a shooting range. You get the ammo there and return the leftover ones. The restriction I am thinking is for the ammo you keep at home.
Personally, since I'm more afraid of the government than I am other people, I wouldn't like that at all.
I think most people realize that you are still trying for gun control. In addition, tricky plans like this would be viewed as deceptive and underhanded. This would be much more contentious than trying for legislation limiting firearms. If you really want to enact legal gun control, pursue a constitutional ammendment. If you can change the constitution, then you will have the legal power of the country in your camp. If you can't get that ammendment, don't try and circumvent normal legal processes and force your will on others in an extralegal way.
Well, I am a practical man. I think it is politically easier to go for ammo control than gun control. Why should I try to bang myself against a wall? Also, don't you think ammo control can satisfy both the self-defense argument from the pro-guns and also prevent mass massacre like what we had today?
Well, some people respect the Constitution as a legal document which provides a framework to ensure that the law doesn't overstep itself. In fact, I'm sure 'W' would give you very similar arguments to yours quoted above regarding why he used a loophole to open up eternal detainment of 'enemy combatants' at Gitmo instead of in the Continental USA. If you support subverting the Constitution in one regard, you support suppression of free speech, suspension of habius corpus, etc. when it becomes expedient. The true test of your support for the rule of law and the Constitution occurs when it involves supporting the sections that you don't like, at least until you use the provided processes to alter that Constitution. http://www.constitution.org/2ll/2ndschol/70embar.pdf
that's why we need concealed gun licenses. pandora's box was opened up back when the constitution was written... no putting it back into the box now.. too late. Oh.. I don't want to pay more for ammo just because some idiot goes nuts. I guess that's like making gas more expensive to prevent car bombings.
How does ammo control infringe 2nd Amendment? There has always been some restrictions as to what type of arms you can have. I don't see why it can't be extended to limit the ammos you can have as well.
Concur. Even $1,000 per round for pistols and semi- and full-automatic weapons would do very nicely -- $1 for the bullet and $999 for a national fund for gun victims.
imo, "ammo control" is a horrible and virtually unenforcible idea that would absolutely not have prevented this. so you limit the amount a person can buy at a time? than keep a database of gun owners and how many bullets they have and when they try to buy more, dont sell them? ill just go all mel gibson a'la the patriot and start making my own. criminals are still going to get bullets them - why put restrictions on law abiding citizens? same w/ gun control - the criminals dont give a crap about laws. they are going to get their guns regardless. even though virginia has a concealed handgun law, that particular campus does not. if they did, maybe not as many people would have died. law abiding citizens need to be able to protect themselves from these kinds of people. not to mention that our founding fathers believed that a well armed citizenry is the last defense against a tyrannical government. maybe we need to go back to the old west days where you carried a gun in a holster so everyone could see it. no permits necessary.
Yeah, if you could stop black markets from forming. Just charge people a million bucks for crack. Yes! Problem solved!
Gun or Ammo control only works for psychotic criminals like the one we have today. This is because when gun or ammo is tightly controlled, only career criminals have the necessary connections to obtain them from the black market. Psychotic criminals usually don't have such type of access. My goal is to limit the impacts of these psychotic criminals not the career ones. The truth is that the psychotic criminals did more damage than these career ones. This is not surprising because the career ones want to make $$$ not to release their own psychotic urge.
