I know Lucas is a Houstonian, but he was running drills? You don't think the Cavs train at Westside, do they?
I used to do some work out there, and you guys aren't missing much. Some of the guys come in and lift for a little while, and that's about it. Lucas does run some drills with players from various teams, and there are a lot of guys trying to catch on with someone. But, I haven't been out this year. I doubt it is any different though.
Hey, i just realized I live really close to Westside. Is it possible to watch the players by just walking in? Or is a membership required?
Yeah i live pretty close to westside. How do u get a membership. It's not like one of those golf clubs where u have to be white and rich to get in is it? how much?
Nick Van Exel works out over here about every day and my basketball/football coach works out with him in the mornings.
I used to be a member at Westside (4-5 years ago), and the initial membership cost was a lot, I can't really remember because my parent's were paying for it, so that I could take tennis lessons there. And no, they obviously do not hold grudges against any race, as I am Korean, and was let in... The best part of WTC, is that the athletes aren't segregated from the normal members. For instance, I saw Mark Bryant one summer on my way to my car, he parked his car a few spaces down from mine... Also, I was in the bar area at the same time Tina Thompson was there (she's huge). From what I've noticed, the athletes don't really get hounded by the members, as most of hte members are like 40+ years old. Hell, one day during the Jr year of my hs, I skipped class and went to watch the Rockets practice. I was sitting down on the upstairs jogging track.
Lucas used to be the head coach/overseer of their youth training program for tennis. Lucas was an All-American tennis player in addition to basketball player at Maryland. Lucas is one hell of a guy, and one hell of a motivator. If he knew more X's and O's, he would be among the best coaches in the NBA.
I bet if you walked thru with tennis gear like you knew what you were doing you would have no problem getting in. os
They have a front desk, and they used to have a security guy named DC that was a hard ass. He gave me a hard time and I was interning at the time. I am not sure if he is still there but I don't think you could just walk in, especially in the Rockets area.
