My International Baccalaureate (a bit better than your high school diploma) exams start tomorrow. Maths. Man, I seriously loathe that subject.

Anyway, it's strange that I just came to the realization that this is the culmination of everything I have done over the past few years.

I suppose it's time to go back to my studies. If I don't come out with a decent mark, I will hold you guys responisble. Damn the BBS and damn the Rockets!! [IMG]

    Well, wish me luck!

    RMT,

Just for clarification (although I think you know what I mean), that was an offense to American schooling, not Americans.

Seriously, though, I lived in Houston for quite a while and when I went back to Holland it took quite a while to adjust.

IB is loads of work, but at least it might buy me 1+ worth of credits at an American university.

Ace, I took the IBs in high school. I studied from about February to May for that thing. I did alright, and got a couple 6s and 7s. When I got to college, do you know how much credit they gave me for that? Nothing. Not a damned thing.

They would have given me credit if I had taken the APs, but I didn't bother (you may want to go through the trouble). But don't let me discourage you: my school, University of Chicago, prides itself on not giving credit. And I did still get out of a requirement or two in my entrance/placement exams.

    JV,

The thing is that if I had opted for an American HS (Country Day School) I would have had to go through two more years of Dutch high school.
That's pretty much the requirement if you want to go to school in Holland. They simply don't accept an American diploma.

Did you take the entire IB course or what? I'm not sure what you mean by "I studied from February to May for those things."

Ace, it was a 2 year thing -- junior and senior year -- with tests in all your subjects at the end of senior year. Though we actually did a mock test first at the end of february and then took the real thing in May. So we all studied real hard for the mock and then just kept on studying real hard until the real test came up. If you've been to an American high school, you'll know that the rest of those two years don't count as "studying."

By the way, that was probably the hardest I worked until I wrote my BA paper in my senior year of college.

    Just curious...

What subjects did you take and what did you end up getting? Did you have to do the CAS hours as well as the extended essay or was it for certificate (rather than diploma) awards?

Yes, I had to do community service: I think it was 150 hours or something. And I wrote a paper too. I started writing in History, on Vichy France but got bogged down somehow. I switched to Art and wrote a paper on Jean Arp -- a modern artist whom I strongly urge everyone to avoid (he somehow has a piece or two in the Art Institute of Chicago, but I still contend he sucks).

We didn't have a great deal of choice as to which subjects we took because my school's resources were limited. I think they were: Major -- History, English, Biology; Minor -- French, Math, Art. I think Art was minor, but it may have been major. I got a 3 in Art (I still think it was dreadfully unfair. My friend got a 6 though I soundly beat him in a number of competitions (though to be fair, he's a better artist, just less committed). I told the examiner I was going to attend the University of Chicago, to which he responded "The Circle Campus or Downtown." I was confused so he told me there were two campuses. Later I discovered the the University of Illinois at Chicago had a Circle Campus and a Downtown Campus. I was pissed!). I got a 6 in English though I had gotten a 7 on my practice. History was a 5 or a 6. I think Bio was a 6, though maybe a 5 or a 7. Math and French were probably both 4, but maybe 5. I don't remember too well; this was all long ago.

How are your tests going so far? Are you done with them yet?

I've only done Maths and Spanish so far, as the fact that I chose both History and Economics made my schedule a bit out of the ordinary. I'm enjoying it now, but it's going to be hell next week. [IMG]

I think I did decently on maths, and I regret that I didn't spend too much time studying for that one. I expect a 5 or a 6.
History, Economics, and Spanish I should get grades 7 for. English should be a 6, but if I get the right questions (I mainly know the Great Gatsby in detail...all the other ones I read too long ago ot remember) a 7 could be possible.
Physics will be the toughest one for me. That's definite. I have not paid attention these past two years and I got horrible marks for my Physics Labs (basically did them all in the last week). Plus, I'm not exactly the guy you go to when it comes to Physics (read: I suck at it).

I hope it really was the toughest until your senior year in college, for my sake!

One more thing: I live in Costa Rica, and due to their schedule I get to take about 8 months off before I go to college. I'll be moving to England in 6 weeks, and then I'll probably be off to Erasmus in Rotterdam! Should be an interesting time.

    Finished last wednesday!

My predictions were almost right on the money but I'm not getting a 6 in English. Physics was difficult, but I expected that. Others thought so too so maybe I'll get a decent grade if the curve is set to my advantage.

Anyway, I'm glad it's over and done with. Now I have some more time to improve our site and keep it up to date. I also like the fact that I don't have to wake up early anymore!!
