Okay, so after work, I had my parents drop me off at my girlfriend's. She lives about a mile away, so I figured I'd just jog home for excersize around curfew time (One o'clock Eastern). So, for some reason, I had my paycheck, that I just got tonight (197 bucks) in my jacket pocket. It was raining, and I was nearly blind with my glasses fogging up, so I took the beanie I was wearing off, so they'd stop fogging up. Anyways, somewhere between the 100 or so yards I was holding the beanie, my check fell out of my pocket. We went and looked for it, but to no avail. I guess I gotta wake up early and walk it back, and look for it. This blows. I already endorsed the check too. What a r****d.
Oh yeah...I also forgot to mention that I was gonna finally set up a bank account, and this check was gonna go all towards prom. Hopefully I can still save up, and have enough.
Just call up your work and tell them to put a stop payment on it. At the most you will lose about $20-$30 for the fee.
that sucks dude...you might want to call the corporate office (payroll department) of wherever you work first thing monday morning and ask if they can cancel the check...they'll probably mail you another one, but it might take a while (4-6 weeks)...
I work again tomorrow. If I don't find it when I go look for it in the morning, I'll probably ask them, and see what my options are. Another bad thing about it is that it has my social security number on it. I guess on the flip side, it has my name and address and I think phone number on it, so if any good samaritan (which are hard to come by in this town) finds it, they'll return it, and I'll give them like 20 bucks..because that's all I can afford. Lol.
That sucks man. This morning, I had my proof of car insurance fly out of the window. I literally had to run it down -- PITA!! I hope you are able to find your paycheck!!
Thanks. I hope I'll find it. My girlfriend's upset about it, because she feels like it was her fault, because if I had not been at her house, I wouldn't have lost it. I told her that she's crazy.
NEVER endorse a check until you're at the bank. Sincerely, Learned this the hard way when I was a teenager.
Wait isn't your girlfriend the one that bought a "I'm with stupid" shirt for herself because she couldn't find a prom dress. Buddy, your girl IS crazy. But crazy girls do tend to be sex-freaks in bed so I guess it balances out.
So, it's been about three weeks now, and nothing's been done. My bosses waited a week to even "call" corporate headquarters, giving me excuses all the while. First day, they told me my boss was gone to physical therapy. Second day, he said he called, and got put on hold. That was a Tuesday. Friday of that week, I asked about it, and the assistant manager said he would put it on his to-do list because my head boss obviously wasn't gonna call about it, and didn't care much. So, the next Monday, he said he called, and that it should be in by about that Friday. It's been about a week and a half, no check. He told me that he'd call me when it comes in. Because it's been so long, my mom took it upon herself to call corporate headquarters earlier this morning. From what the person there told her, nobody has even called concerning my check. They said it would only take a week or less once they can contact my bosses to actually stop payment on my check. So now, We're gonna call my district office, complain, tell them everything that went on, including how my boss also ridiculed me for it for about two or three days after I lost the check. Hopefully they do something about it. Is there anything else I can do about this?
Quit. Sounds like it's just a teenage type job that should be easily replaceable. Your mom, obviously, would understand. Of course, quitting won't get you your paycheck any faster. So, you could just stop working when at work. Just show up, bring an MP3 player, portable gaming device, book, something, and just don't work.
My friend actually did that at the same place. Anyways, it is easily replaceable, and I've thought about it. The thing is, there is another Eckerd (which is where I work) no more than a block and a half from my house. I think I'm gonna try and get transferred there.
