So, my cell phone rings today and the caller ID says UNKNOWN, but I answer anyway. It's an automated message telling me that someone from a correctional facility was attempting to place a collect call to my number, which of course does not allow collect calls. The message went on to say that if I wanted to buy some sort of pre-paid calling card so people in correctional facilities could call me that I should call a certain number. That was it. Of course, I called/e-mailed close friends to see if they'd been arrested, but so far nothing. Anyone ever received a call like this? And the jokes about my friends from the Dallas County Jail can be saved. Thanks.
I have gotten a couple......inmates try to get you to answer them and call someone else for them. Don't bother....let em rot in jail.
I read something about this, RM95. I think DaDa is right...they call you trying to get you to make multiple calls on their behalf. Not sure why they pick YOUR number though.
OOOOPS. I told you I was going home after listenin' to those BLUES that night... but I didn't... man, it was ME... sorry to caused you trouble. I thought I could count on you... I guess I was wrong...
DaDa is correct-a-mundo. I have gotten a couple of these calls on my cellphone as well. It is inmates trying to get you to call someone else for them for free. Don't accept the charges.
That is weird. I have had that happen several times at my home phone (usually Friday/Saturday nights), I started to think my number was placed near the pay phone. My caller id actually says "pay phone" and the number is 713-237-2217.
Seriously speaking, though... and all clowning aside: My wife received two calls last month from the same place... except it was Harris County Jail. She asked me whether she could take the call... I said: "Why didn't you take it? It could have been someone you knew. It could have been my brother [who's been in the slammer before]". Later I spoke to my brothers (both) and one said that he had the scam tried on him too. Anyway, we call back home to our families just to make sure it isn't one of them in jail. IN either case, if it is really someone important or someone you really know, they will keep trying. The answering machine got both calls and the operator said: "Collect call from an inmate at HCJ. Would you accept?" When the answering machine didn't answer, the call got disconnected. I sort of apologized to my wife for asking her why she didn't accept the call. We never spoke of it again, but her beef was: "How come they let them do something like this from Jail??? Is this what our taxes are paying for?" She has a point, my wife does.
I have an experience with a weird call. Its usually a long distance number and it will ring forever. If I answer they will just hang up, or it will sound like some sort of machine *click* *click* Anyone experience this? or have any ideas? BTW, What is call blocking? *67 or *68?
Dude, that was me. I know we haven't met, but I thought I could count on you this one time. Thanks for nothing chief.
It might be a false number that gets you to call back so they can charge a thousand dollars to your bill, or something like that
no, but it would really freak me out. remember that m. night shymalfhkldyafpodyf movie called signs? remember how the aliens communicated? that's probably the "clicking" sounds on the other side of the phone, gummi... seriously.
Thats happened to us before, it says collect call from county jail will you accept? My dad didnt except the call and I wondered if it could have been one of my brothers that we hadnt been in much contact with until recently, fortunately it wasnt.
Glad my family didn't end up hanging up on a family member! Had a call from the Harris County Jail a couple of weeks ago.
I got the same call last week but from Larry in Harris County Correctional facility. I didnt accept the call and wondered the same thing.
My grandpa started receiving these calls from Harris County Jail recently... ...in Salmon Arm, British Columbia!!!
