We need to get wedding invitations and the bride and groom cake taken care of; anybody know of affordable places?

...btw, to show my Rockets love my groom's cake is gonna be designed to look like the court at TC. (I'm thinkin her family's gonna absolutely love that...they're Mavs fans!)

Man, Memorial Bakery makes damn good cakes... Not sure about prices though. Think some of the nicer cakes are around $2.25/person.

That's awesome about your cake. Let's hope the Mavs don't win a title before then. :(

The Asian print shops on Bellaire in Chinatown are the cheapest. I got mine done there and they turned out great.

Just a warning, our caterer would not do a Rockets, Astros or Texans cake due to what she said was copywriting issues. What's funny is that she would do a Longhorn cake.

Anyone know how much a caterer costs, on average? I went to a wedding last fall with around 250 guests and I heard all the food was more than $6000. That seems a bit ridiculous. Is catering usually that much/head?

That's $24 per person, which is respectable. Dirt-cheap (which is usually Tex-Mex around here) will still cost you $10/person.

Junkyard, if you'd gone ahead and gotten married a year ago, I could have helped you, since my wife was a wedding cake designer. She's out of the biz now, and teaching cooking, so you're SOL. Sorry.

There are certain advantages of getting married at the county clerk's office...not having to pay 6 grand for food is definitely one of them!

Just a suggestion. I had my wedding reception at the Children's museum. Everyone said it was their favorite reception.

Nothing but drinking and singing and playing with a bunch of toys.

Man I didn't think about that...but then I've seen pics of cakes that resembler other sporting teams; I've even seen an Xbox cake. I guess if that's a no go I can have the cake designed to look like MMP (so long as there no logos anywhere I'm sure that'd be fine).

The food is the most expensive thing about the wedding..in fact facility fees are sometimes even waved if you go through their catering. In any case, we're having our wedding at Texas Safari Ranch out in Richmond, and they actually worked with us to get a good price; and it's all inclusive so it makes things easier. I think the price came out to 32 a head, based on 150-200 people. By comparison, most hotels and country clubs will charge around 50 at least. FYI, the Sugar Land Ballroom, what a rip off that place was; they wanted 12,000 for the wedding and we'd have to bring our own liqour... f*** that!

Weddings are EXPENSIVE. Luckily, we're saving in other areas as we have friends who can dj and do photography and provide the limo.

We're actually doing that too; we got a baby on the way and want to be married before then...our big church wedding will be in the summer.

I'll try and check out some of the places mentioned so far. I think around 2-3 dollars per person for the cake would probably be a decent price range.

he might pretend one of the flowers had a thorn on it and do a flop on the aisle. Perhaps if you painted a foul line at the altar, he would go there faster.

    Kam would be cheaper.

I vote everyone on the board getting married soon needs to enlist Kam as the flower girl.

Yes it really is. They charge you per person and it sucks because the catering on my wedding with an estimated 300 guests came out to a bit less than $4000. And thats just the food. Your reception is going to be a little more than half your total budget. Needless to say we're either gonna wait or elope. Although I think eloping would be more fun...

My wife and I had a not terribly fancy wedding for 120 people and it cost us almost $20k. Weddings are ridiculously expensive...
