Ok guys ( and gals ), as some of you know I’m a Home Inspector and I need to get with the times and finally set up a web site. Any and all recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Where do I start? Any good books one the subject? Approx cost? I know someone here must do this for a living. Thanks, Jack
Yeah, there's this one guy that posts here every once in a while....What's his name? Cletch....Clatch...Clootch....oh yeah, CLUTCH! You might try talking to that guy....
What exactly are you looking for? You could always go with Yahoo Geocities for starters. There are packages ranging from basic to premium, depending on what your business needs are.
There are two routes in setting up a website. You can either hire someone or do it yourself. If you are doing it yourself, you need to worry about the following: 1) Get a domain name, you can get one from godaddy.com 2) Find a web host for website and emails, you can shop around for web host, or you can get it through godaddy.com as well, I do not know the price. I'd be very careful on who you pick because you need to be concerned with the reliability of the service (whether they will consistently stay up). 3) If you want your website to look decent, you should look into purchasing a template. You can go to templatemonster.com to purchase one. I believe they have instructions for you on how to edit the templates. Good luck on your website!
I really not sure what I need. Just would like people out of state to be able to find me, not the mention the locals. Here is an example of another inspector I know. www.tochomeinspections.com
I suggest you start with.... content. Determine what information you want to make available on your website. Pretend that you're a web site visitor - what do you want to see? What information will you be looking for? What do your competitor web site look like? How can you improve on them? After you have content figured out, work on presentation and delivery. What kind of look and feel do you want for the site? Do you want/need it to be accessible from cell phones or blackberries? Don't try to do too much with your site. Don't add useless junk that nobody will ever use.
I used this group once and it was relatively cheap and site looked simple when done. i would google Houston Graphic Designer and see what you get. Such as: http://www.suradesign.com/ http://www.marion.com/ http://www.inreason.com/enter.htm http://www.adplanetcreative.com/ and see what the prices are. I think this is Jeff's firm www.tworoadsmedia.com
If you dont know anything about the website and internet marketing, you are pretty much better off hiring someone to do it. You'd think this is as easy as picking up a book and teach yourself.. you are competing against people who have been doing this for many years. Chances are that people are not going to find yoursite if you dont spend any money.
I'm a 10-year level professional web designer. Professional quality with extremely low prices. I run my own company. Please email me if you're interested and I'll give you my portfolio ( because I don't want to give it in a public BBS ). I can get it to you as low as $300. It's worth your time. Looking forward to hearing from you. - Lou
I have had great success with http://www.revolutionhosting.net Email me if you need more information.
