I am putting together a website for my father who is an artist, but I am not an expert at this and can't afford to pay someone at this time. Anyways he probably has a couple hundred drawings, and new ones he adds each day and wanted to see if there is another site out there, I could link to his to store the pictures on. That way it would be easier for him to add and subtract them when he needs to.

I hope I am making sense - any help would be appreciated.

You're wanting a website to store and link photos? Photobucket.

There are different issues you'd like to look into:

    1) Domain Name: This determines the URL the user would use to reach the site. You can buy one from GoDaddy for a good price. You'll be paying a monthly or annual fee for it. Also, if you want to keep the site for the long term, do not forget to renew the domain name.

    2) Web Design: The cheap way to go in getting a decent design is to get a design template. A good place to go to is www.templatemonster.com. If your father wants to sell stuff on the site, you may want to look into getting an osCommerce template.

    3) Web Hosting: Be sure to know what kind of technology your web design uses before you get your web hosting. If you want osCommerce or you just want dynamic content on your site, you may want to get web hosting that supports both PHP and mySQL.

    4) Tinkering your website: You need to figure out how you want to maintain the site. If you have HTML or PHP skills, then you can just edit the code with notepad. If you don't have those skills, you may want a Content Management System. Web Hosting companies generally have that as an add-on for an additional fee.

When it comes down to it, do some research and figure out what you want. Make sure you have all four of these tasks planned out before you go and do it yourself.
