Time for me to offer the only thing I can bring to this discussion.....my opinion. and even then, my opinion is from the heart and not from the head...especially since I know next to nothing about cap-ology 1) I really, really, really want to see Mooch here for a while...RESIGN MOOCH!! 2)I want to see Dream retire as a Rocket, and the thought of not having anyone at the 5 besides Cato makes me ill....BRING BACK DREAM!! 3)If SA is willing to be a team player and take what minutes and money we are offering...I wouldn't mind keeping him..otherwise.....C-YA 4) I would rather try to get it done over the next year or so with our current guys+Dream and try for a decent 5 later than mortage our future acquiring CW, especially considering the upcoming Franchise payday. After all is said and done, aren't any of you patient enuff to look at the long term instead of getting CW for a quick fix? Even then, IS CW THE fix for all that is wrong here?? imo...no. he has already said that he will not play the 5 and I don't see a way to get CW and keep Dream while still keeping the other players that I consider important. What can CW do for us that we can't do with who we have + a decent center that may not have "O" skills but can rebound and block a few?? Thats my ramblin little opinion...flame me if you must... Hey Crispee-creme!...whats the deal with you and Freak-azoid..did yall meet at the Twolves game and immediately hate each other or what? every time you say something he takes a crack atcha and vise-versa.. ------------------ This space for rent
Bingo, The $4.5m exception we are talking about is not called a $4.5m exception. It is called the Middle Class Exception. Its value is not actually determined, yet, as it requires league accounting to determine the average salary throughout the league. The Middle Class Exception used to be a set scale until this year. Now it equals "average salary". TheFreak, I didn't say you needed capology knowledge to form a Webber opinion. But your logic here is based on cap space spending, and RealGM is a simple tool you could use for elementary math. It doesn't take a guru to see that a cap windfall can occur at $14m. And it is pretty simple to understand that would occur because of Dream's expiring contract. Further, that $14m cap room exists until you spend it...following me. And Walt adds another $5m to it next year. See. Now start writing your checks, and you'll see that this is more money than we can spend on Moochie and Mo. Thus we have a surplus the moment Dream does retire, but obviously must spend it before Francis' big payday. It is all a matter of when you spend it. The Webber side says NOW, and you say no, not anymore, yet don't realize you still have money to spend. So you are not really making a complete salary cap argument here, unless you really believe we shouldn't spend the windfall. You are trying to make a salary cap argument against Webber, by saying this windfall should not have to be spent on him, but it looks like an anti-Webber argument that has nothing to do with salary cap spending. btw: this is what I've been trying to respond to... The logical connection between shanna's unique year to sign fa's, and you saying it is now better to use it on our own is fine, but it is off by about $10m. If we don't land a big free agent, we still have money to spend at the end of any Dream contract (this summer or later). I assumed you knew that because I assumed everyone knew our cap number. I didn't know you like to base your cap spending on no salary information, rather just your opinion of getting Webber or not. [This message has been edited by crispee (edited July 06, 2001).]
Uh, TheFreak. I am just looking for a response, and I got it. Call my trolling for you dorkish, but don't presume I consider myself important to you. TheFreak, you are right; it is not an argument. But you make such little armchair GM sense here, except for your ability to dent other arguments. You are not really making a case consistent with the opportunity at hand. It is a Simple Discussion If you were CD, would you not consider the Dream windfall this yr or next an important opportunity to spend money on new contracts? If so, how are you going to spend it? That was the simple discussion. You seem to answer it by spreading cap space amongst your current players. That can HAPPEN without spending cap space. It is unnecessary to view this time in Rocket's history as spending money on current players versue new players. Both can happen. This isn't an argument. I just want you to know that we can sign everyone *and* still reap the Dream windfall before Francis's payday puts us over the cap for good. It can be done. My philosophy is to sign all our important free agents: Mo', Moochie and Dream in such a way as to reap a windfall next yr, and when I spend that cap room, I would only do it on one player, not two role players. imo, the key thing to remember is that the new CBA's exceptions allow you to add one role player per year. But to add a starter worthy of more that league average, you basically better have trade bait of equal value OR CAP ROOM! It is a fact that we will need a center for the future. We can create cap room, and that is a fleeting window of opportunity. Landing some gloriously lucky trade like Drexler can happen regardless. But, cap room is unique.
I am no cap expert but I can navigate on realgm.com and according to them there is no 4.5 mil exception ------------------ Mr. President. No man thinks more highly than I of three legged cows. They deserve to live. On my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of reason. Cows with three legs are good. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth : three-legged cows are better. They are better because the meat on them is better. The steaks are more tender. Three-legged cows tend not to wander as much. These cows could be the symbol of our country. The world would look upon us with great respect. They will want our cows and pay good money for them. The cows could symbolize freedom and hard work and three legs are better than four. They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other.
