Hey Guys, We got my inlaws a web cam this weekend and got us one also. We used AIM to talk to each other. It worked fine but the image that is streamed is so small. Is there better chat programs (free) out there. Is the stuff you see on TV where you have a full screen and it si crystal clear all just make believe? We got them this one http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41YzylH6sbL._SL500_AA280_.jpg and we got this one http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-960-...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1214235581&sr=8-1
i have that bottom one. it's awesome the best chat program is sightspeed. it's way better than skype as far as call quality goes http://www.sightspeed.com/ Also another good one is oovoo (oovoo.com)....it allows up to 6 ppl on video conferencing. it's pretty cool
Yeah, what you see in the movies doesnt exist in the real world. The best you can really hope for is that the video streams well and isnt choppy. Lighting is very important. You can have a good camera, a great connection and all that, but poor lighting can made the picture look terrible. Ive seen webcam streams where it was hard to see the other person, they have put the light on and the picture quality is great. One last thing, ALWAYS dissconect your webcam when your not using it!
skype and ooVoo are the best out there. You can even conference video chat. We use it at work all the time.
On the subject of webcams, do any of you guys have any experience with motion capture software and/or streaming to a webpage?
I have never done this, but I know for sure that you need a streaming server like the Windows Media Services server (sends the mms: protocol), or the Real Server (for the smil: protocol) and have it constantly on. You can do the free Media Services server (or click the link on the same page for more info). OK, well, maybe I lied... I HAVE done this... on a small scale.
