Yep. Have you walked outside at all during the past 2 hours? It's insane, I've never seen anything like it.
Nope... I have the drapes open and am watching neighbors unsuccessfully try to walk their dogs. High comedy as most of the girls are being knocked around by the wind.
15-18" ? HAHA my guess is that we get FAR more than that. I am currently in the West Suburbs of Chicago and it is TERRIBLE... already hard to open the front door. I am sure your firm can't expect you to come in. My firm let us out at noon on tuesday and we are off on wednesday... I don't think anyone will be able to drive anyway.
I think we'll get closer to 24"-30", if not more. They're saying the worst of it hasn't even started it.
LOL I'm at the corner of Lake Shore and Division right now and looking at ENORMOUS swells and thunder snow. My brother's apartment has huge glass walls so you feel like you're out in the storm. It's a terrifying sight, yet oddly I feel excited.
Haha nah it's just a human thing I guess. To be in awe of something terrible or powerful. Most of my day was spent doing work for my firm, but now this blizzard has my complete attention. I'm really tempted to roll one up, put on some Doors or Pink Floyd, and sit back and watch this storm in the dark. Looking at this, I can't stop thinking of this painting by William Turner
Wow. Surprisingly large number of chi folks here. Plows don't even look to be running in Lincoln park - seems like they decided to wait to see how much snow there really is and let the wind do some work. Accumulation isn't bad at all on my decks, but some numb nut decided to abandon his SUV in the alley behind me, so i can't get from the garage to the street even if I wanted to. Moron - does he really think it's going to be easier to get it out in the morning???
Firm sent out an email at 6:40am saying the office is closed. Thanks for waiting so long to let us know guys. I got up at 6 to try to go to work, opened the door and about 1 foot of snow fell inside the house. If I wanted to go outside, I'd have to basically walk through knee high snow... Impossible. I hope Streets and Sanitation gets to plowing soon. I'd like to be able to hit up an X-Sport this afternoon. I called them yesterday and they said they are open 24/7... even if the apocalypse arrives.
I just got to office on over a foot of snow. Not much traffic. Could go up to 45 mph at certain spots. Some places look like impossible to get through. Saw a bunch of abandoned cars, good thing no one is inside. I am the 1st person to work in the entire building. LOL
Saw some ice patches on the road, but other than that not as crazy as I expected the roads to be. Lots of people pouring into the office late because of flashing stop lights. The power went out in the building for about 20 minutes, but everything seems to be back to normal now. People saying we should be sent home sound stupid. Why would they send us home because it's cold outside? The way people in Houston flip out about the weather is amusing.
Yay, I just felt -10 to -5 degree wind chills. This just reminds me why I don't want to live north of Dallas for any extended period of time (outside of maybe Arkansas).
Its a bit balmier down here, only 9 degree wind chill. One of the biggest problems for those of us down on the coast is that we normally dont have the kind of cold water headware folks up north own...so while I have a warm enough jacket, my hands and head are freezing! Went looking for gloves last night....yeah right. I dont remember being this affected by cold in previous years....must be the damn blood pressure meds doing this.
