Here is the June 5th weather report.

News articles, reliable, and semi-reliable personal sources were all compiled for this report.

    Key: <^> = stock rising, < v > = stock declining, <-> = stock is the same.

Stromile Swift <^> - Taller than expected and some feel could make a solid argument for the #1 pick.

Kenyon Martin <-> - Measured slightly under 6'8" which was expected however Swift and his injury could push him down one, maybe two spots.

Darius Miles <^> - Has been very impressive and may even crack the top 3. This is the guy Jerry Krause really wants, not Mihm.

Joel Przybilla <^> - Like Miles has been impressive in workouts and his training he has done since leaving the Gopher team has paid off.

Marcus Fizer < v > - Measured smaller than expected and already has had one poor workout. His stock is falling and may drop out of the top 5 all together.

    10. Iakovo Tsakalidis

Everything sounds right. I'd add Dermarr Johnson as a rising stock. Where would Miles go in the top 3? Clippers would have an interesting team with the 2 of them (with Odom) but I don't see him liking LAC all that much, just a hunch.

I think Pryzbilla may be top 5 now.

The way Fizer is going, I'd say there may be about a 20% chance he falls to maybe even us

Sky Pilot -- would Chicago take Miles/Johnson when they've already got Brand and Artest?

Yes. Miles and Johnson each can play 3 or 4 legitimate positions.

Nice report, Pilot. Thanks for the info.

So what else would Clips get from Orlando for the #3? Would they just take the #5 and #10? Not a bad trade- but Orlando would have to be really, really high on Miles to do it. They could get two major contributors with #5 and #10 that could make an immediate impact this year. They must be betting that Miles will grow into the franchise badass that some are projecting he could be.

Orlando wants to dump draft picks because they don't want to get stuck with too many guaranteed contracts. It is no secret that Orlando has offered the #5, #10, and #13 to NJ for the #1.

How can NJ turn down the #5, 10, and 13-- even for #1? They need playerS (notice the pluralization).

I'll take Pryzbilla, Moiso and Stevenson over KM or SS anyday. Who wouldn't?

Is there some capology involved here?

Since trades can't be made until draft day, I am sure NJ is weighing their options plus they are still in process of installing their front office.

    I wouldn't...even consider it.

This isn't the NFL. This is the NBA. You get a 12-man roster, and quality can take you down a longer road than quantity. If I had to choose between a potential franchise player and 3 sleepers, I take the franchise player every time.

Sky- hate to bring up a point that's been hashed so much, but I'm only asking because I know I'll get an honest answer.

Why do you think the Clips would trade #3 for #5 + #10, but absolutely wouldn't take #9 + combination of players from the Rocks?

Miles goes top 3 if a team trades up to #3 to make sure he doesn't go to Chicago at #4. I am convinced that the Clippers PF and be had at #5 and I can see them swapping picks with Orlando. My prelliminary pre-draft looks like this so far:

    1. Kenyon Martin - New Jersey
    2. Stromile Swift - Vancouver
    3. Darius Miles - Orlando
    4. Joel Przybilla - Chicago
    5. Marcus Fizer - LA Clippers
    6. Chris Mihm (and a Mutombo trade)- Atlanta
    7. DeMarr Johnson - Chicago

New Jersey is still an unknown due to new management, Vancouver will take Swift or Martin and try their best to acquire another pick by trading a veteran, Orlando likes Martin and Miles, Chicago likes Miles and both centers, and who knows about the Clippers except that there has been an interest in a replacement for Taylor.

    Nolen,

The Clips make that deal because they still can get Fizer and get a second pick. In a deal with Houston, they wouldn't get Fizer and would end up getting a bunch of bench players.

    TeXaSalsa,

I am not a Grizzlies fan. (HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO REPEAT MYSELF ON THESE BOARDS!)

That said, Vancouver is not trading the #2. The guy they plan on drafting (if he is available at the #2) was in Vancouver today for a workout (yes it went really well).

As for your trade scenario, it isn't a good one for Vancouver. They down grade at the 4 and 5, which already is Vancouver's weakness. Post this trade on the Grizzlies board at hoopsboards.com and I am sure you will get laughed at or at least receive some constructive criticism.

getting a little off topic, as the moderator of 2 boards at hoopsboards, through my experiences with Vancouver fans, they are MAJOR MAJOR homers. example: one put in an underrated/overrated thread-underrated: Dickerson, Reef. overrated: Francis. Then after people said they disagreed on Francis being overrated, and said he was bitter, the guy pitched a fit, and went on proclaiming that Vancouver got the better of the trade. Earlier on, they were bashing Francis WORSE than we bash Quitten. That being said, there are a several open minded ones, who are intelligent. I haven't made it over to the Vancouver board recently, no need to.

    NIKEstrad,

Just checked it out and you are correct. Only one or two posters there seem any bit reasonable (or basketball astute). Here is an example of a post:

this is easy. Obviosly the Rockets have the 9th pick. Vercase said he would like to get some picks by keeping the 2nd pick. so there you go. Country and Hakeem could share the load.
This also could mean harrington could be traded for the 7th or 10th picks (bulls or magic)

so, he's implying that we trade them Hakeem, and the #9 for what? A box of peanuts?

Any of the trio of Moiso, Pryzbilla or Stevenson could end up being as valuable or moreso than Swift. And you wouldn't even be tempted to exchange the rights to those three (or pick your own 3 realistically) for Swift of KM alone? How do you spell rotation?

I disagree Sky pilot. this trade while not necessarily the best trade they r proposed, helps the grizz at many of their weaknesses.

    Vancouver's Weaknesses
Center Position- Kelvin Cato has ALOT to learn. but he is already a major improvement over big country reeves. at least he will be able to dunk and finish some plays. kelvin can at least block some shots too. big country cant do any of this. and they dont want his contract which we will take.
Status- Improves the center position significantly

PF- The grizz are lacking a PF that is athletic and versatile. jerome moiso is a 6'11 extremely athletic PF who can shoot the ball. he is raw and needs work but has TONS of potential. he needs to work on his D, but if he plays more intense he will be able to block alot of shots. O harrington wants out.
    Status- Improves the PF significnatly

the bench- the grizzlies have no people to come off the bench and score besides lopez. kenny T has alot of talent and would provide offense and RBs immediatly. if we decided to throw bryce drew in whos not that great, he will be an ok backup PG. if we had to id throw walt in, who can also provide instant offense and is a seaonsed veteran.
Status- Makes the grizz's bench alot deeper something they need.

lets see what one player does
Stromile Swift- has a higher ceiling than moisso and is a better player. will provide interior offense something they lack. provides great D. has unlimited potential. can excel beautifully on the open floor.
    BUT
is he going to play on the bench? no.
is he going to play center? no.
is he single handedly going to make the grizz a playoff team? no.

ditto for this on kenyon martin.

sky pilot im not trying to propose a bad trade taht would hurt the grizzlies. if they upgrade at say 3 weaknesses, would that not be better than having one gigantic upgrade at one position?

unfortunetly i think ur right, even if they like this trade which they should, swift left some jaws dropping yesterday when he worked out for em. i was just speculating no need to jump all over my case.
