Biggio needs to pick it up......he is really struggling lately... We need a 3 for 5 game from him tonight. Come on Biggio !! DD
why such vitriol? none of us are oblivious to craig biggio's decline; at the same time, none of us are oblivious to all the many wonderful things he's done for this franchise, either. while i don't agree he's the greatest astro of all-time (that, of course, is hunter pence), he's certainly on the short list. i mean, in terms of taking out your anger over some traumatic childhood event on the astros, there are far greater targets than craig biggio. and that it comes at a time in which the team looks as if it's righted its ship paints your entire premise is an odd color - just what is it you want? for the astros to win? or for craig biggio to fail? i'll tell ya, this has to be the most negative era of sports fanadom i've ever seen. i'm at a loss why people even bother keeping up with the local teams -- none can seemingly do anything right.
Aaaahhh, the short list. Not "most-loved", but best baseball players to spend a significant portion of their careers in H-Town. Position Players, Tier 1: Bagwell Biggio Joe Morgan? Position Players, Tier 2: Jimmy Wynn Jose Cruz Position Players, Tier 3: Cedeño Glenn Davis Billy Hatcher Ken Caminiti Doug Rader Bob Aspromonte? Position Players, one day they'll be there: Berkman Pence Zobrist Pitchers, Tier 1: Scottie JR Richard Ryan Oswalt (it's early, but he's going to be there) Pitchers, Tier 2: Wilson Dierker Niekro Hampton? Wagner Pitchers, Tier 3: Reynolds Ruhle Kile Smittie Top-of-my-head. Sure to laced with obvious ones left out, and others overestimated or underestimated. Cuss and discuss.
there are?? who exactly? anybody else who plays poorly loses their job or at least some playing time. and what do you mean none of you are oblivious to his decline? what the hell do you think this entire thread was about?
Perhaps Castor can make two official sticky threads and merge others into them: [sticky] Official: The Pile-on and b**** about Biggio, Everett, and Ausmus thread and [sticky] Official: The "Why the hell isn't Zobrist (or insert your favorite AAAA player) up here? thread
sure, i think morgan ensberg's decline is far more hurtful to the astros' chances for success; while i have no problem with him being in the line-up, i am disappointed that, to this point, everett's bat (especially his eye) have regressed to the point that his defensive contributions are potentially being compromised; brad lidge's success (or failure) is far more important to this team than craig biggio's; jason lane continuing to use up a roster spot and waste ABs is problematic; the trade of hirsh for jennings feels worse with every start jennings misses, and everyday he's without a contract extension; the lack of any quality among our everyday prospects (pence aside) is problematic and could rear its ugly head sooner than later. i mean, i don't think biggio's NOT a problem; i just don't think he deserves such animosity. frankly, i picked up around page 3 or 4 or 5, so i have no idea. if people are defending craig biggio as an everyday baseball player, then those people are probably not astute baseball fans. but then, neither are those rooting for, and reveling in his failure...
i think there's a lot more piling on of the posters with those opinions. most threads are at least 5-1 favor biggio and everett.
I can't disagree with you. And, I'll admit that that piling on is just as much a part of the problem.
Damn right he should be. He should be embarassed with the way he's playing 2nd. 3,000 cannot come soon enough.
You are a sorry piece of worthless ass ****. anyhoo. How the hell did you forget about 21 game winner. Jose Lima? cuss, you damn right. **** **** ****. LEEE MAH time.
How is it early for Oswalt? He already has over a 100 wins with the Astros and is already contemplating retirement. Ryan had 106 wins with the 'Stros, Oz is only two behind. Lidge and Ensberg should be included in there...
You're right. He's also played in one more WS (for the Astros) than all the other pitchers I listed put together. Lidge maybe, but Ensberg??? He's had one solid season--one. In my book, he's got a list of Astros 3B ahead of him in terms of greatness--after all, it's not hard to be greater than mediocre. I'll throw out Aspro, Rader, Denny Walling, Phil Garner (the few times he played there), Ray Knight, Cammy, and Sean Berry as better than Ensberg. And that's off the top of my head. Dude's 37 dingers two years ago does *not* get him a free pass for leaving the bat on his freaking shoulder in RBI situation after RBI situation ever since. And, his OBP sure as hell doesn't get him off the hook. You can't drive in runs unless you swing the freaking bat. Lidge I didn't include because his run was so short. But it *was* quite a run!
hahaha, sticky it! maybe we should just start a whole forum about b****ing about the astros, texans, and rockets.
