YES!!!!!!!!!!! Sean Eliot can kiss it on NBA Tonight. Was it surprising and would I feel the same had I been a Clippers Fan YES but IM NOT....hahahahahaha (By the way there is no such thing as a Clippers fan). I think they have a reason to be upset because of the call but come on, it was a VILOATION. End of story. That makes up for the thousands of calls that the referees have gotten wrong for the ROX. The way it was explained by Bill Worrel.....if his body crosses the line before the shot touches the rim then it is a violation. Look at the tape and you will see that it is a VIOLATION! Bottom Line ROCKETS WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I say congrats to the ROX and I say job well done to the fans that stayed and beleived in the Rockets that they could pull it off.
It was a violation. It should NOT have been called. The call made a mockery of the game. It was pathetic. Yet, I feel like giggling. he he he he he he he he he
Violation or not...referees should not have called it. They are PART of the game...but they are not THE game. They shouldn't be the ones to decide games. They only get to do that during Lakers games (in LA's favor).
I am with Jeff on this. It was indeed a violation, but overall, a bush league call. His body was leaning over the line before the shot went in, but if i remember right, his feet stayed put until the shot went in. I know the rule says any part of the body, but the refs should use better judgement there. I am sure if you look closely, every time an NBA player shoots a FT, some part of his body is over the line (most likely his hands!!!) Thats the problem I have with NBA referees. If its a rule, then call it, on EVERY player, EVERY time so players will learn to stop doing it. To call it with the game on the line like that is the same as calling a lane violation or a palming violation or a def 3 sec violation. Let the players play.

That call was a joke. But somehow I'm not surprised by it. NBA refs are simply terrible. To the Clippers, I say yes that call was a joke, but what was even worse was when Miller choked on the 2nd free throw. I think it's also been said that Miller's been whistled for that something like 7 times now this season, so you'd think he'd do something about it. If I were on the Rockets team, I think I'd feel pretty bad about winning like that. But hey, a win's a win. Gotta move on. Oh, and don't think that's the last bad call we're gonna see on the court. Cause it's not.
I agree. I think the Refs themselves don't know what the NBA wants, so they are so inconsistent in their calls. And that's why the playoffs were so bad last year. They probably get conflicting mesages. There are these problems: 1) The NBA thinks players should decide the game, so refs end up not calling fouls at the end of games. People get mugged and they let it go. 2) The NBA thinks stars should decide the game, so refs let guys like Jordan and Shaq get away with little things which turn out to have big effects. 3) Make- up calls. These shouldn't exist, get it right the first time. 4) Home court advantage. There should be none, except from the fans! I'm not sure how big of a problem these things are, but after the Kings-Lakers series last year, I am convinced the NBA needs some changes!
It was a horrible call, but I'm glad they called. That violation is almost never called let alone at the end of the game. I smell a conspiracy brewing...Yao...ratings...$$$$
At least the referees were consistent. They called two more lane violations in that game. Two of the violations were on Miller. Also they called a lane violation on a jump-ball. IMO, they should have called the last foul (on Possey) in the first place. A match of that magnitude shouldn't have been decided like that unless if the shooter was indiscriminately mugged but that was not the case.
OK, Ok -- how come games are called one way for :59.50 but then 'let the players decide the game'. If so, then where was the JPo call? PS It ain't bush when the call goes Rox way.
The problem with the "let the players decide" mentality, is that it's really a "let the players get away with some things" mentality. Then you're not really playing the game of basketball, so a team who's been coached to follow the rules is penalized for playing the right way. I just want to see a fair game, is that so wrong?
Jeff, I also feel like Miller shouldn't even have been at the line. When is the last time you saw an "on the floor" call with 1 second and a player wildly spinning with no legitimate chance to make a shot. my gut instinct watching the refs restore order after the bogus call was that #6 was determined to play it by the book if the other ref decided to play it by the book on the floor foul. The end of the game should have been Miller shooting a wild shot and missing. Not free throws.

A lame way for the game to end, for sure. But if a guy's been warned about his FT form/positionsing all season and ONCE ALREADY IN THE GAME, he really shouldn't be too surprised if the refs nail him when he does it again, regardless of how much time is on the clock. And he STILL had another chance to win the game, but he clanged it off the rim. If I were a Clippers fan, first I would burn myself with more ciggarettes and then I would get mad at the refs. But I would have to be mad at the shooter, too, for blowing an easy chance to win with r****ded free-throw shooting.
I thought the joke call was the one against Posey with 1.1 left on the clock. I have not seen the tape, but I don't see to many calls with 1.1 left. Especially for a scrub like Miller.
