It may not happen as often on the big screen, but at schools and just out in the streets, playing basketball pickup games, there is PLENTY of double standard on the type of jokes an African American can make, vs. those any others can... Sad truth

But still the Ebay site was sick twisted attempt at Humor...

Even though I really question this, what makes this a sad truth even if true?

Because its one of the factors that perpetuates racism.

Then again, if perpetuating racism is your goal, I guess it wouldn't be all that sad.

Maybe if you didn't want people to think about race or ethenicity so much you wouldn't have your Moniker.

Thank you for backing me up, at least I know there is one person who payed attention in history class. what I wrote wasn't ground breaking nor something only history majors know.

And people's reaction to my post represent the major problem you have when discussing race relations. People don't even know how we got to this point.

Explain to me how I watched white comedians, one who is now on SNL, make off color jokes about various races without any backlash whatsoever.

That is one example. Great. You have posted it several times now.

I would like to here AB's take on this.

If it was a true double standard, then there'd be an outcry everytime. Comedy Central wouldn't show stuff like that, if there was this big double standard among comedians that said that every comedian, except for white people, could make off-color jokes about race.

    Rm95,

There are a few comics who do off color jokes, but GENERALLY, they are limited in how offensive they can be.

There is a double standard in comedy, at least there was when I did it.

AB would know more than either of us, so we should try to get his take on this to settle it.

OK, for ****s and giggles, what's an example of an offensive joke that an African-American or other minority comic can make where a white comment can't make a similar joke.

Saying we dance funny doesn't apply.

    Dude,

I don't sit around looking for examples of jokes.

All I can do is tell you that I did comedy for 2+ years and this was a topic that came up a lot.

There was a clear double standard, and we laughed a lot about how blacks could poke a lot more fun about whites, than vice-versa.

Most of my black comic friends thought it was unfair, but there was not a lot you could do about it.

This was back in 90-92, and I would love to hear what the status is currently, thus I want to hear from AB.

Your constant bringing up of one guy on SNL as a meter for every comic or the tenor of racial comedy is laughable in itself. There are exceptions to every rule, and this guy may be one.

A clear double standard exists, or at least that is what I contend, and you contend it doesn't.

Time for the expert witness, I will trust AB's word on this as he has more experience in this matter.

    DD

PS. Just as I have more experience in it than you.

    :p

Can one person give me an example of a white joke that wouldn't be tolerated by minorities that's similar to the jokes told by African-Amercians. That's really all I ask.

And it wasn't just one comedian. I can remember two from one 30 minute show that told jokes I was always told white comedians couldn't tell because of some mythical double standard.

Not to mention the dozens I hear when I'm in my car listening to XM Comedy.

    A clear double standard exists.

    Because I said so.

    It must be true.

Any Chris Rock Joke that begins..." The thing about white people is..."

How far would a white comedian get if he started off " The thing about black people is..." and proceeded to mock them?

Black comedians can say how white people just scare them, make them feel uncomfortable, they dont like white people, etc. People would find that funny. Jokes like that are told all the time.

If a white comedian said how black people scared of black people, they dont like black people, they dont want to be around black people, etc. it would be called racist and not funny.

You just reminded me of a third comedian who I saw yesterday who made nearly the same exact joke. They showed a group of black people laughing.

I'll wait to hear from AB before responding anymore since he's the only successful comedian on the board. :D

Why does DaDakota want to make fun of black people so much. Actually, that's what this thread tells me, "I wish I could really tell you about how I felt about blacks, but I can't".
