Coma, I had bad bad luck on Autotrader. Worst money I spent, even though I got the "run till it sells" special. All I can were "scam" offers and didn't get 1 serious phone call. Coming from someone in the auto appraisal business, Ill give you some sound advice: 1) Invest in a Chronicle ad. I got more hits off that ad in a a few days than I did in 8 months on Autotrader. 2) In today's market, it is extremely difficult to sell a used, by owner, late model truck. Dealer incentives on new trucks are ridiculous right now and inviduals with trucks that are just a few years old can't compete. 3) Don't go by NADA value. Rather, go by KBB Private Party value. That is what you can expect, best case scenario, for your truck. (your truck is overpriced by about $3K imo). 4) If you are really desperate, take it over to Carmax. They pay, by far, more than any other dealer on wholesale level. The best thing is, you don't have buy a car from them to sell your truck. They pay the closest to book of anyone I know of. Good luck!
Thanks codell! Yes, Autotrader actually charged me twice! But yea, I got one serious call, but he couldn't meet the financing. Of course I've gotten the scam emails as well. I will look into a Chron ad. KBB has the truck at $27,600. I'd like to get a little bit more for all the accessories that I've added on. I know I won't get full value for the add-ons, but just some would be fine. I took my truck to CarMax and they offered me book value for dealer trade-in. I'm not desperate to sell my truck, just getting older and realizing that monetary priorities don't start with your ride. Plus I need to gather up a down payment for a second house. pasox- Long time no talk, buddy. I don't know yet. Basically that truck is a show on wheels, I don't let anyone eat in it, drink in it, they have to wipe their shoes before entering, I wash it once a week, I don't store anything more than some coins in it. Plus I'm buying a second house, so just rearranging my financial priorities. Talk to you soon!
Make sure you do "private party" value and not retail. If you price it right in the Chronicle (at the KBB private party value), I'd bet youll have it sold in less than 2 weeks.

You should try ebay. It's pretty easy to sell a car on ebay, and you will get lots of response. I sold my Oldsmobile on ebay, and it went very well.
You definitely should try eBay, you will get a lot of hits that way. At least start the price at $2000 or so less than what you would like to sell it for, but make sure that you have a reserve price in the auction with the min you are willing to sell your truck for. Good luck, this is a real bad market for trucks/large SUVs nowadays, but you seem to have a nice customized vehicle on your hands
It's just you. I've had great luck in selling and purchasing vehicles on AutoTrader. If you ask for too much, of course no one is going to be interested. Lower your asking price to reasonable amount and Im sure you'll get some inquire. The last vehicle I sold on autotrader I recieved 3-4 calls a day for 2 weeks. I waited until someone was willing to give me the price I wanted to sell the vehicle for.
Yeah, a buddy of mine told me a pretty funny story about his failures & successes selling a car recently. He said he had his ad in there for like MONTHS and didn't get a single bite. So then he said screw it and dropped the price down $200. Immediately after doing that, his phone was flooded with messages. One guy even told him (after he sold it), "damn, I'da paid $250 more for that car" $200? You'd think people could haggle down 200 w/o waiting to see the price drop.
Well, its not JUST me. Being in the business, I have heard more failure stories from Autotrader than success stories. My asking price was reasonable to begin with, trust me. I ended up listing it for the same price in the Chronicle and had much more success. Ultimately, it depends on the type of vehicle, and not so much the price.
