He was dominating Yao the same way Raef LaFrentz once did. Just step out to the three point line and if you're feeling good, you'll make every shot. Yao's not going to go all the way out there to contest it. That stuff won't fly in the NBA if you cant really do anything else. At least LaFrentz can rebound fairly well. Wang ZiZi never really could do anything else.
wang is indeed a good 3 pt shooter. I believe he shot 42% 3pters for mavs in one season. pity he couldn't do anything else...
To be fair, he was very good back in China from what I read. Ming used to see him as the biggest motivation, to beat him. Considering how far Ming has progressed the past 3.5 years, and how much Wang has degressed, they are in totally different levels now. I think personality plays a very big role here. Wang grew up, trained, and played under a military like system. Coming into NBA, he didn't have Team Yao or people around him to support and help him to adapt to the new environment. He doesn't have SF and Rudy to show him the way, be patient with him, to help him grow. I am not saying he would be Yao Ming like, but I believe he had the chance to be a solid NBA player to contribute night in and night out. After the fiasco with Chinese national team, nobody in NBA wanted him any more. Very unfortunate, although he has his own fault. Nobody really helped him, except for some bad advices from relatives. Still wish him well. I heard he might be able to play for Chinese national team again.
I hear ya he did have a nice jumper and I think he struggle with the Mentality of the NBA Yao did too . . . Wang did not adjust as well and probably because he did not have the right supporting cast Which is all important - Esp in the early years Rocket River
I always thought he had a chance to be a poor man's Dirk. He was very mobile for a 7-footer, has a sweet jumper, and can somewhat ran the floor. Too bad that nobody really gave him a chance.
It's my pet peeves with the way people call Yao Ming. No big deal but still kind of irritating. As I said, you are among the last people I would expect to do so.
If you are referring to your other post regarding Yao Ming's first name and last name thing. Of course, I know Ming is his first name. I forgot the exact content of that post. But I agree that some people still confuse his last name or first name. Actually, I was affected by that post of you, and thought it makes sense. Instead of calling him Yao Ming, or Yao as I usually did, I think maybe I should call his first name to show my appreciation of him. Maybe I should put in a disclaimer that I chose to call him by first name - Ming, but I do know what his Last name is?
Oh no problem now that I know what's the story behind this. You better hope hotballa doesn't see this.
YAO . . .MING . .. come one stop being senstative TMAC is TMAC - Tracy - MCGRADY folx use all those names for him . . . same thing with YAO he is YAO . . he is MING . . he is the GREAT WALL CHI-Slama JAMMA! trust me .. . his nicknames and other names is just starting Rocket River
I hope you're kidding. When did Ming = Yahweh? If you ever get the chance to speak to him, are you going to call him Mr. Yao Ming or just Ming? What's your ruling on the singular use of Kobe or Shaq?
I don't think it's a big deal to refer to him at "Ming". We do it for players all the time. When Steve Francis was here we called him "Stevie" frequently. We know that Yao is his surname, but that doesn't preclude us from using his given name.
