ok i know this is lately and not the whole season but walt has had a good season and now is starting to play even better. i expected him when we traded him to be the kind of player he is now making 3s etc. my question is why does everyone on this board think he won't fit in? guys we need some veterns on this court at some point so it might as well be walt. how old is he? he's not that old and after dream retires who will be our vetern?

    oooohhhhhhh!!!!

I knew it had something to do w/ francis but couldn't put the last 3 together.

the a isn't silent. Back when I was young (before I graduated from c-of-c in 95) I took a class in major african authors. We read 30 books from 10-12 different authors but none influenced me as much as Chinua Achebe (okay there was also Soyinka, Mahfouz, Ngugi Wa'thiongo (sp?)).

it's pronounced a-che-be which actually sounds alot like your h-e-b intuition.

some great points made. that is what i like about this board can ask questions and get answers without getting bashed too badly (most of the time). now my question then shifts to do we need a playoff experienced player on this team because after dream retires we will have no one besides shandon on our team with quite a bit of playoff experience and most importantly experience of going deep into the playoffs. is it that important or is too much made of the playoff experience factor?

Godhelp us if we have to rely on Walt the WizMaster to hold our team together like Hakeem has done for so many years.

Walt was needed to play open-ended offense and just average defense for the previous 55 games. Instead, we got hot and cold (mostly cold) one-dimensional shooting and a defense that can be called ... well, lets be kind and call it an amateur matador demonstration .... with inappropriate fouls thrown in .... to really screw up the flow and rotation of the team.

Now that it is being hinted by some writers that old Walt may be traded he starts showing some stuff that he was hired to do all year, and the suggestion is to let him lead this team? Not No. But, Hell NO!

In my opinion, the core will be Francis, Shandon, (hopefully) Mobely, {maybe) KT and probably Moochie. Cato can't shut up, Carlos can't stay healthy, Hakeem sadly is close to shadyacres resthome, Bullard is an afterthought and always will be, Drew is tradebound, lets not even mention Tony "Oooh, ahhh I think I hurt somewhere else today" Massenburg, and the rest of the sorry "athletes" on this roster ......

Let's let the guys who lead this team all year, lead this team next year.

Walt is great player. He knows his role. To shoot. He has finally found his groove. To let him go without finding an adequate starting sf would be foolish.

Walt is da man. Alongside Steve Francis this team will be UNSTOPABLE next year.

Walt has bad wheels. He has trouble running the break and getting back. Since this team has some young stud horses that like to run, you would really want your 3 to be part of the break. Walt also lacks defensive instinct, ie he is very slow to move his feet on D.

His matadorian D and his bad wheels both go to limit his playing time and to force him to be a bench player. Given his salary, one would expect to get more out of Walt than that.

Walt's game does have some plusses. In the set half cour O, he has a nice stroke and can hit the three. He also has got really long arms, which allow him to drive his man to the hoop for a fairly reliable score or foul. Walt also surprising blocks a lot of shots. his matadorian defense lulls his opponents in believing they can get any shot they want againt Walt, but his extra long arms can go get those blocks [IMG]

I don't think the Rocks will be able to find another team to take Walt and his contract (not unless the Rocks try and get Quittin' back after he has worn out his welcome in Portland this year [IMG]).
