This sounds alot better than the Boston trade. Portland trades: PF Rasheed Wallace (18.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.1 apg in 36.3 minutes) Portland receives: PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.5 minutes) SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.1 minutes) Change in team outlook: +12.5 ppg, +8.7 rpg, and +2.2 apg. Houston trades: PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.5 minutes) SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.1 minutes) Houston receives: PF Rasheed Wallace (18.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.1 apg in 74 games) Change in team outlook: -12.5 ppg, -8.7 rpg, and -2.2 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED The reason this would be a good trade is because of Rasheeds ending contract. We have a whole year to see if he can work out here and if he doesn't we just let him go and turn our attention to Kobe who has said he will not take his extension and test the open market next year. I know it sounds lkike a pipe dream to get Kobe but if you look at the Lakers their team is very unstable right now with Shaqs health problems and contract demands they could become an average team real fast. Kobe already knows the benifits of playing with a dominate bigman and most everyone agrees Ming is the next in line once Shaq goes down. The Rockets core of Ming and Francis are young and combined with Kobe could dominate the NBA for years to come. Basically we would become what the Lakers havebecome. Think of how many quality vets would take the minimum to play with those three and retire with a ring or two. If you think Portland would balk at such a trade then how about this? Houston trades: C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.1 minutes) SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) Houston receives: PG Antonio McDyess (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) C Travis Knight (1.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 0.4 apg in 9.0 minutes) Change in team outlook: -24.4 ppg, -10.1 rpg, and -5.2 apg. New York trades: PG Antonio McDyess (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) C Travis Knight (1.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 0.4 apg in 9.0 minutes) New York receives: C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 73 games) SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 73 games) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 82 games) Change in team outlook: +24.4 ppg, +10.1 rpg, and +5.2 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED
Antonio McDyess a PG?! At any rate...we lose Mooch who actually seems to be reforming his ways and Cato for one of the few NBA players who can actually get hurt THINKING about playing and a big white stiff to replace Collier? ALRIGHT!
You miss the point. I'm suggesting we trade of some of our garanteed contracts so we have room cap room to go after Kobe and turn our team into a dynasty. McDyss is justone of the players that happens to have a large expiring contract. You are right that would hurt us this year since hes hurt. There are other players out there though that could actually play this year like Divac Gugliatta, Kukoc any of which would be fine with me. Its not like we have a real good chance at winning the title this year. You put Kobe on this team with Ming and Francis and the rest role players and we are legit continders for years to come.
I like to have McDyess as a rocket, of course if he's healthy. he'll compliment Yao very well at the 4 with his rebounding and defense. but who's going to back up Yao if we trade Cato?
Knight and Ameach. Having a really good backup center is not as important in my opinion as it is with most of the posters here. Look who the backup is going to be going against 90 percent of the time. Players just as bad as they are.
why would u make a move so that you "might" get to lure kobe in when we don't even know if he will be in jail then or not. I mean hello talk about killing the team. Trading to free up cap room is suiscide. look at utah. you have to trade talent for talent. Its the rule of sports the person with the better talent in the end has the better end of the stick.
How can you compare Utahs situation with the Rockets? We have our core its Ming and Francis. If we were to make this kind of move and we had serious cap room do you not think we would be the top team the upperclass free agents would want to play for? There are a lot of other very good players taht are free agents next year. Any of which IMO would love to play alongside Ming and Francis. This gives us a chance to build a dynasty. Ming is 22 years old, Francis 25(?), Bryant 25. They would have many years together.
I understand your reasoning, and I was just joking. Still, I think if we go after someone, we go after someone who can 1) contribute, and 2) come off the books quick. The NY Knicks trade was bad (McDyess being healthy is too much of a gamble to take, IMO) and Knight is just plain bad. Him behind Meech doesn't sound bad, in theory, but Yao will get tired playin 33-40 mpg, so our backup C should be serviceable. The Blazers trade I'd do in a heartbeat, but I highly doubt the Blazers would do that trade. They do need a C, but Zach Randolph is their PF of the future and they are high on Bonzi and Qyntel as their 2/3 rotation. Unless I'm grossly mistaken, I don't think they'd do that trade... IMO, if we give up EG and Mobley for a Bucks guard and Kukoc, that would be favorable. D-Mas gives the slasher type that Rudy would have liked, but Redd is the sweet shooting 3 pt specialist that could be a great complement to Steve's and Yao's game, as well as being hell on defenses when him and Pike are in the game together...just my .02 Possum. I wasn't completely rejecting your idea, just thinking that we could get a lot more than just McDyess and Knight.
Even IF Kobe is not being traded around in a jail cell for the next 10 years, even if he is not and is a free agent. WHY WOULD HE GO TO HOUSTON. we haven't been to the playoffs in what 4 years 5 something like that. We think yao and franicis are great but does the rest of the league? until we prove we are good we are just hype. No way would Kobe sign with the rockets. Further I would think u had learned from the pipen barkly olijawan days or even the barkly drexler Olijawan days that too many cooks in the kitchen isn't going to get the job done. You need depth and talent to win it all not just more stars. When we won the first time we had one super star. the second time we had two super stars. but we have never won with 3 stars. There just isn't enough ball to go around. I belive the lakers will have the same problem. heck Kobe and shack already complain about getting the ball now there is gary payton AND Malon now too wanting the ball. I can't imagine that lasting.
