I didn't like the options. we need a better point guard, but not necessarily because we need more offense from that position. If we obtained another point guard, Sura can always get his minutes backing up the shooting guard and forward spots and playing some point when we want to go big in the back court.
I don't understand why we don't give a chance to Andre Barrett, he can't be much worse than Lue or Ward or Gains. The way our PG plays now, every guard in the roster have a chance to prove himself.
We've sunk very low if we're depending on Bob Sura to make us a better team. We're still lacking a banger PF (Pleaaaase bring ZO here!).
I think Jeff had a thread not long ago that summed things up pretty well. We have duplication at too many spots, and are weak in others. Mo Taylor and Juwan Howard on the same team? Might work in the East with small-ball lineups, Taylor at center sometimes. We need a solid PG and we need outside shooting. And I hope the Rockets brass realizes this and does something about it. Bob Sura? When he comes back, he can make a difference on defense, and bring some hustle; but don't we already have JJ for this? And JJ can hit the outside shot as well? If you had T-Mac as point forward, with JJ and Sura nominally at the 1 and 2, that lineup might kick ass; but I wonder if those players will work well together, and how long it would take to build chemistry, or if the team is just delaying the inevitable: get players to fill conventional roles.
New Orleans Hornets are desperate as any team in the NBA. If the Rockets offer Mo for PJ Brown, they might pull the trigger. The contracts are very similar. New Orleans needs a kick in the pants for their offense. PJ Brown is more of a half-court player anyway.
with jvg harping on about better d barrett's heigh and inexperience wil count heavily against him for the moment unless jvg starts feeling the heat. jj sura yao tmac stockton yes? YES.
Hopefully he is practicing his entry passes on x-box. Y button to fake lob and then A button to bounce pass into post. Y, then A.
I have been hoping that Sura can add something that Ward and Lue have not....stability and consistency. But he may not. But he can't be any worse than the production we have seen from the 1 spot so far. And he might be better. I do want to say that CD and JVG did what they could, with they had, to improve this team over what we had last year. That said, we are where we are at due to bad/mediocre trades, contracts and drafts over the last 6-8 years. Lots of missed opps. It is not going to get better fast or easily.
Sura will help. But we can't expect him to immediately just come in a perform at high-level. He'll be tying to get in NBA shape. And training can't do that. He has to put in substantial minutes. Sura the X-Factor? Nah. A permanent PG like B. Jax or AD are.
