We've got 32 hours left to decide the fate of Adam Everett as the starting NL shortstop in the All-Star game. You can vote a maximum of 25 times with each email address. I voted 75 times last night. There's a sticky on the Texans/Astros board, but I thought this should be highlighed in this page. As of yesterday, Everett trailed Edgar Renteria by only 6 votes! Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but we have the chance to start three hometown guys (Kent and Clemens the others). All Star Ballot
If you want the local guy to win, vote Everett. If you want the truly deserving player, vote Jack Wilson.
Wilson will be an all-star whether he gets voted in or not. Adam needs our help because, otherwise, he may not be in uniform come game time.
In all fairness to Adam, he's been the 2nd best SS in the NL this year (slight edge over Izturis & Renteria a semi-distant 4th).
Actually, it's more like saying that he's deserving, but he will go unrecognized if we don't ensure that he wins. Adam Everett isn't as big a name as Edgar Renteria, and if not for his play would have stood no chance and faded out of the race long ago. The fact that he's still even in this race is a testament to to the fact that he's deserving.
Everett is the best defensive shortstop in the NL. You can't simply focus on homers and RBIs at the SS position.
With so many big hitters at SS in this era, people forget that SS is probably the most demanding position defensively. Adam Everett is one of the best in the game...just because he doesn't hit 30 homers a season doesn't mean he can't be an all-star? How many homers did Ozzie Smith hit in his career?
Agreed. He is the one most deserving this year Yes. I think he will win a gold glove this year and that is an award he deserves fully. As an All-Star it's pretty borderline, the NL is weak at short this year but I think the All-Star game is more about numbers for some reason. I voted about 20 times already and ready for another round. Asode from all logic - vote for the hometown guy. Just like Steve Francis.
I hope he makes it. It would be so badass to see him in the allstar game. I've voted way more than 25 times, and I have nothing better to do today then to vote him in some more.
By the way, I don't know if this is going to actually get him 2 votes per ballot, but I'm voting for Beltran both in the AL and as a write-in in the NL. I know he can't catch the other outfielders, but I thought it would be fun to pad his vote total. I am, after all, voting a straight Astro ticket except for 3B (couldn't vote for a guy with zero HRs in good conscience.)
Everett may be the best defensive SS in the NL (only because he is the one Astros fans see the most) , but if he is better than Wilson, it isn't by much. When all is said and done, I'd much rather have Wilson (.338 BA, .357 OBP, .500 slugging) then Everett at SS. Statistically, Izuris and are fielding way better than Everett, although Everett probably gets to more balls than Rollins.
At this point, voting for Wilson is as useless as voting for Ralph Nader. So disable your cookies and get to work like the rest of us!
This thread is precisely why All Star Game invitations should not be considered an honor when debating the merits of individual players and considering them for entry into the Hall of Fame.
If they wanted truly deserving players, they wouldn't let the fans vote in the starters. Everett is shouldn't be the starter - Jack Wilson should - by a long shot; but Everett is the second best SS in the NL, so he clearly deserves to be there.
