Any ideas guys? I need to volunteer somewhere for 5 hrs for my sociology class. A guy in my class and I were going to volunteer at the aids foundation but you have to take a 6 hr class before you can even start your volunteer work, so any ideas?

Yeah I was already at that site.

I don't want to collect food, I want to interact with people!

Just call the Texas Children's hospital.

They are ALWAYS looking for volunteers to help out with the kids. I worked down their last year filling up baloons at a birthday party. Another guy I was with played kid's songs on his guitar, and my other friend helped with arts and crafts.

    Sometimes just a visit helps.

You could always help out any of theatre's or art's organizations in town. We constantly need help and are a 501(c)(3) company.

Find something to go with your interests and will help you out in your class, who do you want to interact with?

Dress for success is a good charity we've dealt with.

    http://www.dressforsuccess.org/

From their site: Dress for Success is a not-for-profit organization that helps low-income women make tailored transitions into the workforce. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and a second suit when she gets the job. The Dress for Success Professional Women's Group program then provides ongoing support to help the client build a successful career.

    - I first got started helping out at the orange show as a volunteer just because I thought the place was great.

I used to volunteer at Special Pals -- a no-kill animal shelter.

I'm planning on volunteering at The Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, but you have to do the orientation there too.

I will probably have to start volunteering as well, but not for any class. My dad just wants me to do some so that it will look good for colleges. I don't live in Houston, though. My dad just signed me up to help out the local zoo. Kind of wished he'd asked me about it though. Now I have to clean up animal dung..hehe...dung.:)

Are you sure about this? I called them about putting in some time this summer, and they said that they require volunteers to apply at least 3 months in advance... I would have loved to volunteer there, but they said there was just no way that I could at that point(I called about a month in advance).

    Try the Ronald McDonald house.

Well Obvisiously *I* know that, just wondering why *I* don't have to.

When I volunteered at MD Anderson, I had to take an orientation class. There was a perk to volunteering there: free valet parking.

I could say something like by the way, It's spelled Me, but I'm not trying to get smart with you.
