My house is a cell dead spot for both ATT and Verizon wireless Moving is not an option Getting voicemail on my cell four hours after the fact is starting to get old. I want to get either a minimal land line (ATT) or a VoIP service. It would be nice white I'm home to have a phone that will reliably ring. Previously I had VoIP service which cost just under $16 / month (200 minutes). The service would email me on missing calls and voice mails, which was cool. I would hate to give that up. Google Voice is currently free for 2013 (if you buy an adapter). Magic Jack and Skype are dirt cheap. Any recommendations?
Get a microcell from AT&T: http://techland.time.com/2011/01/21/poor-att-reception-you-might-get-a-free-signal-booster/ They're free if you have ****ty/no single in your area and is supposedly covered by the coverage map. My buddy in Galveston kept complaining to the local AT&T store that he had no coverage and they finally sold him one. After further complaining they finally took it off his bill too.
I have used Callcentric for the past 7 years. They were great until Superstorm Sandy hit (offices were located in New York). I lost service for about a week. Luckily I use Google Voice as my main number and the simultaneous ring feature to ring my cell and VoIP lines at the same time, so it didn't impact me much. I pay $3.50/month for the number and 911 service, and 2 cents per minute of phone usage. Call sound quality is much better than over cell phone.
As another poster suggested, get an internet base station. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Femtocell Google around and do your research. Providers usually give them to you if you're in a dead spot. Or get magic jack
I got one Friday and got it installed today. iPhone now has 5 bars in the house We will see how it works going forward. I also signed up for Google Voice and will eventually have it ring the "home" phone. Still looking at land line versus VoIP. ATT via TWC is offering a $20/month unlimited long distance and to-mobile minutes deal, that may sway me away from VoIP.
