so awesome. @*&@$^&@*&(&@# I'm trying to install Office 2003 on Vista but error 1913 mapisvc.inf won't let me install. I googled and searched microsofts website for hours and figured out I needed to change the permissions in mapisvc.inf, but when I try to, it won't let me. I disabled the UAC and unfortunately it still doesn't work. I read that Microsoft released a update to mapisvc.inf forbiding people from modifying it because of security risk. Great, Vista has been out for years and I can't effin install Office 2003 because Microsoft has been unable to fix their security issues. Cliffnotes; Can't install office 2003 on Vista Ultimate error 1913 mapisvc.inf mapisvc.inf can't be modified How in hell do I modify the file to install Office 2003?
Did you try something like this? http://www.vistax64.com/microsoft-office/52821-ms-office-2003-error-1913-mapisvc-inf.html
Yes I did, it still doesn't allow me to change permissions. I believe the older versions of Vista, you were able to modify that file. With a up to date Vista, I haven't found a solution.
Once I got rid of Norton my brand new Vista computer has run great (no more once per session crash /minimum) - but it still does weird things that defy logic. Someone need to invent a program like Ccleaner where you push one button and fix all of Vista's f'ups in one go.
7 beta is a lot better than xp and it's just a beta. The op should try openoffice. It's free and has microsoft office support.
I was able to get help from another forum and figured out what needs to be done. There is a tiny program called Take Ownership you have to download and install. This programs allows you to easily take ownership over any? file in Vista.
Vista is a good OS if you have a good computer. Screw the haters. However, Win 7 is basically a streamlined version of Vista, but it's still in beta and I'm too lazy to install another OS.
Vista actually isn't that bad... I couldn't stand it at first. Had loads of problems, but with the release of the new SP a few months ago, it started working smoothly!
7 is in beta, not in retail. Not interested in trying a demo and reinstalling XP/Vista when 7 expires in August. I can patiently wait until UH gets it for $14/$20 whatever they'll price it at. Beats paying $200-$300 for retail.
