Why would anyone in their right mind trade for him? Like Portland... I don't think highly of SAR's game, but he's better than Carter in at least he can play. Injuries have made VC into a stiff, and you would never guess from watching him now that he was ever considered an athletic player. I'd look elsewhere. Kidd, too, might never be the player he was, but investing in him could pay off.
How awkward/terrible is it going to be for the Raptors franchise if this is a serious injury? I mean it was crystal clear to everyone that he was on the block and very close to being dealt, no doubt to the delight of all parties involved (Carter, management, coach). If he has another serious injury, he could go from having good trade value to overpaid contract. This is just terrible for the Raptors if it keeps him out a good deal of time.
You know, I had heard that Portland had been scouting him hard during the Raptors trip to Florida and were spooked by (reportedly) his play. Apparently they thought that he looked like he was struggling because of lingering problems with his calf/Achilles/knee/etc. All this time, I thought he was just stinking it up on purpose to try and force Babcock's hand. Looks like he really is damaged goods. Warrants mentioning that the Toronto trainers have been upset with him for years over his disinterested and half-hearted efforts when rehabbing. One example that springs to mind is his exhibition match up with Yao the summer before Yao's rookie year. The trainers were furious with him for dunking and doing all sorts of explosive stuff despite not being out of the woods yet with his rehab. Sure enough, he reinjured himself about two months later in Houston. Now Toronto is seriously looking stupid. They killed multiple trades over the past month by making a deal and then trying to overplay their hand and demand Rose be included. Last I heard, they were still insisting that any deal include him ($47 million still due). Now they won't have a shot to unload either of them unless they take poison contracts. That NY's best pieces play Bosh's position doesn't help matters, and the Raps would be getting a pile of mediocore talent in return - not a formula for success or fan excitement. Magloire is a servicable big man in reality, but that goes miles in the East. Only question is if the Hornets are that desperate for a big name to help their pitiful attendance. Portland may have the best deal, but word has it that they're sick of Toronto's endless negotiating for just a little more. Fact is, other GMs have the Raps by the balls. If I were Babcock, I'd try to pull the following off: Carter to Chicago in exchange for Chandler and literally anyone that makes the numbers work outside of Davis (probably Othella, Pippen, Williams, and Trybanski). Maybe push your luck and insist that include the first rounder (protected for the #1) or Gordon. Then try to pan off Rose for Mashburn's contract. Though Toronto is'nt going to trade Vince if Rose is not involved as well...And i think Jalen Rose has the worst contract in the league not Houston...Jalen to make 18 friggin million next year...digusting for a guy who is a GOOD role player...that is why teams are a little hesitant to make a trade...Vince i think will be a star in this league again...though he has made up his mind that he is not going to try until he is traded then he''ll TRY to prove everyone wrong....anyways i think toronto is better without the fool.
I would trade Allan Houston for Rose in a heartbeat. Houston's a career jumpshooter with near-zero leadership, passing, or defense. And that's leaving out the fact that he very likely will never regain his previous level of playing. Rose, while a notorious attitude guy, is one of the more versatile players you can have. The numbers: Houston - career 17.5 ppg, 2.4 apg, 2.9 rpg, 45% FG, 40% 3Pt $17.5 million this year with a total of 3 years and $47 million remaining. Rose - career 14.5 ppg, 4.2 apg, 3.7 rpg, 42% FG, 35% 3Pt $14.5 million this year and 3 years and $47 million remaining.
